does anybody know when the smoking ban starts in turkey,i've heard sometime this year

I am not sure of the exact dates, but I very much doubt that this will be enforced in the bars abd restraunts. Turkey is a nation of smokers and very much doubt this will ever be enforcable. The likes of public places like the airport then obviously they could enforce it, but bars and restraunts I dont think so.

The Turkish authorities banned smoking in public places early last year and are extending the ban to include restaurants and bars as of 19 July this year.

It will be interesting to see how this is adhered to - and enforced! Just as well it'll be hot enough to sit outside!

I hope they ban the dirty filthy stinking cancer ridden habit worldwide. I hate the smell and theres nothing more horrible than being in a restaurant and you get clouds of stink keep going by.

I hope they ban it completely world wide as well, it may give me the help I need to give up, The smoking ban over here has got me to cut down by half but because I still can I do - so weak willed

Its some time in July that they are banning it indoors,but sitting in restaurants outside is ok,My husband hates the smelly things and is always going on at me,but it must be love!!!hes still with me after 38 years

!9th July. Miss it in May but bang in for August. It will be interesting to see what they will do to alter premises for those with no outside space. Also outside space with a roof is also no smoking. One lady I spoke to who owns an apartment block said she would move the restaurant outdoors rather than lose the business. Or, being Turkey will they totally ignore it. We will wait and see.

I don't smoke myself, but I do find a lot of non-smokers very self-righteous on the subject. most smokers would probably prefer not to smoke but it's obviously a very hard habit to break. Did all these non-smokers never go into pubs and restaurants before the ban came in...I don't think so. we all have our habits whether it's smoking, drinking too much or over-eating. so let's live and let live a wee bit folks.

I'm not a smoker, but I agree, Magoo. Also, I often find that it is ex smokers who are the worst when it comes to disliking other smokers habits.

However, in Icmeler it's not so bad because the bars etc are mostly open air, so there is some air circulation.

Either way, a smoking ban doesn't worry me. I'm not going to be concerned over whether people are/aren't allowed to smoke, I'll be too interested in my cocktails!

P.S I edited this to say that I'm a non smoker..

Not sure that all the people who have died from cancer or related illnesses due to passive smoking would agree.

Also, how often has someone blown booze or blubber in your face!!

I used to go in to pubs, i also used to hate the smell in your hair, clothes etc when you got home. Ive nothing against smokers, its the smoke itself i hate. Last year in Aysima there were 9 at one table and EVERY one had a ciggy lit! it was like a bleedin' steam train going by!

Got to agree with Erik, I don't have a problem with smokers, as I was one myself until a few years ago, its where they do it that bugs me. I sat at the next table to a guy last year and in the time it took us to eat our food he had had 6 fags, smoke drifting across with every mouthful. unbelievable

Even when I did smoke I wouldn't dream of lighting up if someone was eating at the same or even the next table to me.

their was nothing worse if you have bought something nice to wear get home and it stinks of them horrible habit

As a smoker (quit 3 months last year) I have always considered myself a very considerate smoker and I would never smoke when people were eating, even in Icmeler last year I still went outside to smoke if anyone was eating.

I totally agree with the anti smokers.

Like you say there is nothing nice about having too breath in everyone else's filthy smoke. It makes everything else smell horrible.

Why should non smokers have to suffer their dirty habit.?

Ok everyone has their weaknesses but not all of them effect other people as much as smoking does.

If you want to smoke thats your choice but do it out of the way so i totally agree with the ban THE SOONER THE BETTER.

The ban was brought in the UK for a reason 1 being to help the staff aswell as the public esp in bars and restaurants , they have to work not breath their smoke!!!

Lets just enjoy eveyones company without the smoke.!!

I cant see it making a lot of difference in Turkey as most of the places are open sided, I think its more on the inside. You probably wont be able to smoke in the apartments etc, but I never smoked inside anyway, I always go out to the balcony.

obviously lespaul a typical selfish smokers reply,why should i move when somebody smokes you're the one one filling everybodys lung with your filth,and yes i've sat next to an obese person on a 4hr flight but at least i didnt get off the plane stinking of smoke,why is it smokers always think they're hard done too,as far as im concerned let them be casticated like lepers and carry on smoking OUTDOORS ,i like a drink but i dont stand outside desperate for one like smokers do in all kinds of weather
