Advanced Passenger Information for Turkey

Postby dksbbs » 05 Mar 2009 13:05

From 4 March 2009 the UK Government will require Advanced Passenger Information for all passengers travelling to and from Malta and Turkey

Does anyone know about this and how to go about giving the information.

Required information is full name, surname, gender, nationality, date of birth and passport number including expiry date and country of issue. Staff at check-in desks will be able to collect the data, however, to avoid delays, passengers are advised to supply the information prior to arrival at the airport or at a check-in kiosk.

This info was found on internet, may be wise to check with your tour operator.

If this is the case then it's only the same as what Spain do. Spanish authorities require this for people travelling into Spain. Depending on the Airline some gather this information when you book, and some simply take it when they check you in by takeing the details from your passport, when check in is closed the info is then forwarded to the authorities by the time you land they will have the info.

It is on the various airline sites so I think it is right. Malta as well. Same as Spain no big problem.

Has anyone who has just come back from Turkey throw any more light on this new checking in procedure.
The info below was picked off the internet.

Advanced Passenger Information (API) - What’s it all about?
The collection of Advanced Passenger Information (API) is a requirement from specific countries, which involves collecting passenger information from those entering the country. Collecting API is a very simple process and when carried out at check-in involves passports being swiped through a special machine which collects the relevant data. Customers should not notice any difference at check-in, and contrary to media reports, delays are not anticipated as a result of this new process being implemented.

We have had to provide this information for our flights in August with a strict warning that we would not be allowed to fly without providing it.

That's TC for you !
maybe sending an email with the details and asking them to confirm receipt/ack receipt would do the trick??

As far as I am aware TC have the machines to scan the info in at check in. Other carriers don't, so it really depends on which carrier you are flying with or who you booked it with. As for my problem it is now sorted by e-mailing info.

If you can't provide it now I wouldnt worry about it. Your details will be taken at check in with a quick scan of your passport.

We flew last week and didn't have to provide any information, so can only assume that it was all collected when they scanned our passports.
