Did anyone see the Tonight programme last night showing the Turkish orphanages? I was saddened to see the disgusting state these children (and some adults) were being kept in, some restrained while lying naked on the bed, some drugged up to the eyeballs and nearly all of them rocking constantly back and forth. (And that's just the stuff they managed to film, lord knows what goes on when there are no visitors around).
Pity the authorities can't learn some lessons from the orphanage at Mugla, which by the sound of it is definately not like the ones I saw last night on tv.
When it's time for our 2009 hols let's all continue the good work started at the ICR offices this year.
Well done all of you!

I didnt see the programme last night, but I caught highlights from 'This Morning' today, so I will have a look and see if its repeated. Fergie is involved in it - is that right?

I also watched the programme and was heartbroken when I saw those poor children. I can't believe they are still being treated that in this day and age. It was not only Turkey but Romania as well.

It wont help Turkeys position in trying to join the E.U.

I missed tonights follow up so can someone let me know what was said?

I also saw last night's programme. It was awful, one poor little lad was kept in a big wooden box. They said it was for his own safety as he was hyper-active. When they let him out and he was given a bit of attention, he sat as good as gold. It's hard to believe that places like that are allowed to stay open.
As Elkie said it makes you wonder what goes on when there are no visitors.

You can see Thursday night's Tonight programme on itv.com/tonight about the Turkish children's homes. Sorry I can't do a link but I'm a technophobe!

As many of you know I am a mum of a girl who has Down's Syndrome. I have watched both these programmes and all I can say is that I am horrified at what I have just watched. Words can not express what I feel. To be honest it has made me really think do I want to holiday here again. We have booked for next year and our daughter has always been made to feel more than welcome which is why we have returned every year since 2002. Niamh lives and breathes Turkey but I am so disappointed at what I have watched, I am sure many will not agree with me but I just felt that I had to say something.

Oh Lynda, it must be really bad. I have not watched them.

What were the programmes actually called so I can have a look at the next weeks listings to see if I can watch them?

It was the Tonight program which Trevor McDonald host's I watched it on what they call catch up on the ITV web site. Sorry if you all thing I am being a bit over the top and I do know it goes on all over the world but I am just gutted at what came across on this program in a country where we were actually thinking of buying we always thought of it as our second home guess we need a re-think .Needless to say not a dry eye in the house, just a bit to close to home.

i for one would gladly pay double to enter the country if i had assurances that the money raised went to these poor people.

I thought it was disgusting that the Turkish abandon disabled children as they will not except them in their families. Could admin reassure us that the orphanage in mugla is not run this way

Must admit Sue that thought had crossed my mind also. I still can't get the programme out of my head. Those conditions were awful.

This is a reply to Sue from Southports comment about the orphanage in Mugla.

I am actually shocked that you would even ask ME a question like that Sue.

I am a human being and though I do not like cats I would not even tie one of them up nor have anything to do with anyone that would do that so for you to even think that we as a business or myself as a parent would have anything to do with an establishment that ties kids to tables or mistreats them is just, well I am lost for words.

I don't want to hear anymore people asking me do the kids in the Mugla orphanage get mistreated.

The only reason that we do not post any photo's of these kids is because the world unfortunately is full of Paedo's and I would not like to contribute to anyones portfolio.

Sorry myself as I don't like anything like that and I never even watched the prog as I had already read it in the Mail last week.

The one in Mugla was actually getting ready to build another building and then take in babies as the other buildings also were schools.

In the centre of Mugla with lots of happy kids running around in the yard.

I don't stay there long and try not to dwell in the place or dwell on it as it doesn't matter how happy the kids are they are still not with their families and I suppose that hurst us more than it would them.

it is a shame that the children are put in there, i just presumed it was because they had lost their mum or dad and had no other relatives,

While I am here I should say that this was just a particular place that was televised but think about all the care homes, orphanages, nursing homes etc in this country where people are being abused and even bumped off( remember Shipman) so even though I don't mean it to sound like I am defending Turkey please be aware that this is just sensational TV and it could have been any country.

Hang the lot of them upside down by their bits and let me do the flogging with a barbed wire whip I say.

Anyway I'm getting off this one before it drives me to drink
