How long have you got ?. We a party of six returned after 15 nights in Icmeler starting very end of aug .I had some pre conceived ideas before arriving inresort .Mostly i found Icmeler to be absolutely first class - Peace and tranquility along with its very scenic location add in some very warm weather and from the off i was delighted . Eating out every evening sampling a large cross section of restaurants i was amazed to find that on every occassion the food was a very good standard and excellent value for money add to that the relatively low cost of beer (effes) .Shops were in abundance and seemed to be open for business around the clock many bargains to be had . Travel was easy with a bus service second to none in terms of cost and frequency.Cannot think of anything worth mentioning that could be done to improve the Icmeler experience .Best place i have visited for my needs ,Peace warmth friendliness and reasonable costs .

We also enjoyed our first visit to Icmeler this summer. The food was superb,the Turks delightful and the resort beautiful. The highlight of the two weeks was the Jeep Safari.We had a ball.

Reasons for me are too numourous to mention
But I think I along with a lot of other Icmelerites fall into another catagory, that being what I would call the
"Protective Mode".
This being self explanitary we want to protect our wonderfull little piece of escapeism from the big bad world of so called "normality"
This is why I and probably others get on our "high horse" and mouth off , I know that is the case with me, contraversial !! I can certainly be, but it is my love of Icmeler that effects me this way.
And for which I can only apologise for if I go too far

Agree totally with you Peli, think I treat Icmeler like a child that I don't want to grow up - overprotective is an understatement. I just won't hear anyone say anything bad about Icmeler. any fault must be attributed to the individual concerned, not with my beloved Icmeler!

Wrote this a couple of years ago to a similair question.

I wonder what is the attraction in Icmeler for me?
Is it the early morning walks along the promenade were the smell of jasmine is still in the air.
The sea is like a mill pond, hardly any movement except for the gentle lapping of the waves on the shore,the sea still resting before she receives her daily guests to enjoy her watersports.
Or is it the early morning walk up into the old village were the distinctive smell of hot earth wafts the air,changing to the smell of newly baked bread as I pass the bakers shop near the mosque.
Walking round this tranquil scene horses,goats,hens and geese busy themselves feeding,and in the background can be heard the incessant rhythmic sound of the crickets.
May be dinner time spent under the wellcoming shade of the trees at the Erdem cafe on the promenade were a few beers and a tuna sandwich is taken while watching the world pass by.
Could it be when Icmeler dresses up for the evening,with her flashing lights and inviting bars,when she opens up her heart for us all to enjoy.
One ingredient not to be missed from my thoughts is the friendlyness and hospitality of the Turkish and Kurdish people who during our visits make us so wellcome.
I know it doesnt do for us all to like the same things and my memories will be different from yours,everyone has moments they remember which make repeat visits compulsive.

Just the thoughts of someone feeling meloncholy on a winters night.

I would echo peli's comments - I think Gene captures perfectly up what most of us all love about Icmeler.

I love the sun risings and sunsets, they are magical, seeing them from the 5th floor of the Efes Inn was really different in May this year.

Went to Benidorm for a long week end recently and oh my god thank heavens for Icmeler need i say more, wild horses could not drag me back to that high rise concrete jungle what a dump, can't wait to get back to Icmeler in June.

Agree with all that has been said, we had never thought of going to Turkey till about nine years ago but having been once we have never wanted to go anywhere else. This year we will be there in May, August and October, just cant wait. Hope to meet some of you during that time.

Reasons that I love Icmeler?

Waking up every morning because the sun is streaming through my window, rather than hearing my shrill alarm clock and seeing grey and rain.

Never having to worry about whether I need to take an umbrella, or a coat, or wellies, or gloves, or a hat...etc!

Meeting old friends for the very first time.

The sun beaming on my face as I wander wherever the path takes me.

That first icy cold Efes.

Really, this list could go on and on. The beach, particular bars, a particular boat trip guy, partiular people, food, cocktails, music, cheesy nights out, staying out til the sun comes up and wandering home for a kebab.....

Have to echo everyone's comments, its the welcome you get when you first walk into any bar or restaurant for the first time or coming back to meet old friends, i also think that the humble tourist (like ourselves) help to make that special hoilday better, especially when you see the same faces year in year out

he he, Jools's post has just reminded me of the first time we went to Icmeler
my friend called round to see how the packing was going and fell over laughing when she saw I was taking a brolly
....after all, we were going mid July
I couldn't get my head around her certainty of it not raining for the whole of our stay
of course I know better now and the thing I struggle with these days is the need to take a jacket for the evenings if we go towards the end of the season!!

My favourite thing is when you get to see Icmeler spreading out across the bay just as you come out of Marmaris
Closely followed by the feeling that we've "come home", am sure you all know what I mean

Fanny, I've known it to pour down at that time of year, and can remember one particular August, we were sitting in the Majestic restaurant when there was a terrific storm for a couple of hours. We had to move the tables and join the ones inside, then after it had stopped we had to take our shoes off and paddle back to the hotel, in about 3 inches of water.

funny though, now we've been so many times in the middle of summer, i can't imagine needing one
there was one night last year in the middle of August when it really felt like a big storm was brewing and the weather felt really close, but it passed
was a bit gutted cos I love a good thunder storm and I've only ever seen one - like you say, it comes down like stair rods and then it's back to intense sunshine a few minutes later......fab
