stomach bug

Postby neighbour » 09 Oct 2008 19:19

Hello all, we as a family are very frequent visitors to wonderful Icmeler. However we have been increasingly concerned re the apparent outbreak of ??? Gastroenteritis. Can anyone reasure us that all steps have been taken by local environmental health to investigate the possible cause of this severe outbreak. Four members of my own family have recently returned to England with severe Gastroenteritis which took two weeks to recover from, having suffered extreamly painfull stomach cramps sickness and diarroea. We are more concerned as we intend to return in a few weeks. Any help would be appreciated thank you.

do they have environmental health in Turkey?

personal hygiene can also go a long way to help - you can get those liquid gels which are great for washing your hands, and are anti bacterial too

i always take plenty of Immodium just in case - apart from last year though we've never had to use them

Never use immodium as it doesn't kill the bug and just stops the flow

I flew home Monday afternoon and the plane was full and no one was running  to the toilet.

I ate 2 plank steaks while I was there and also shared a salad with people and bread from the same plate.

I scrub my hands every time I use the toilet and hope every waiter and barman does too.

Hopefully everyone will recover and touch wood hope I never catch anything like that even at home.

if this is just a D & V bug, like the norovirus then just be vigilant same as at home, wash your hands or use gel before eating, after using the toilet etc.....

, and dont sit too close to someone who is complaining of being ill or stomach pains....

you have as much chance catching it, as you would over in britain,

hope you have a nice holiday :D i am sure you will be fine,

These sort of bugs can be easily transfered via banknotes.2 yrs i got struck down with it.My wife and son un-affected we ate and drank mostly the same things and same places.
I could only put it down to the notes as i did all the dealings with paying etc.

I don't for one minute think the "outbreak" of gastroenteritis was just in Icmeler.
This virus has bee rattling around the UK since April, it's a pretty nasty, violent thing, which lasts 10-14 days - you should just take extra care that you always wash your hands after visiting the toilet, before eating etc and if you're really worried about picking the virus up from touch you can get travel sized anti bacterial hand gels which are pretty effective.

Enjoy your holiday - don't let your worries spoil it!
