Cruel waiter at Cubana

PostPosted: 07 Oct 2008 10:06

Arrived back yesterday after staying ay Ekinci Palace. The Cubana next door is owned by the same person. We ate at the Cubana 6 times in total, 3 evening meals, 1 breakfast and 2 lunch times. we also stopped off for a drink on a night on our way back to apts.

We were going back there for our last meal on Sunday night, as they were very friendly + nice (or so I thought). About 5.30 pm Sunday we were sat on our balcony watching a tortoise walkind down the street.

2 girls stopped to look at it and take photo's. There were also a couple of cats about and the doorman and 1 of the waiters from the Cubana were making miaowing noises at these girls.

They came down the street as the girls were walking away, and the waiter kicked the poor little tortoise as though it was a football.

I shouted at him from our balcony to leave it alone, so he picked it up and dropped it over a six foot fence.

I am an animal lover and find this kind of treatment of poor defenceless creature's sickening. I went straight round there in tears and confronted them and was told "it is ok it has a hard shell".

I would never set foot in there again and would also ask any other animal lovers to boycott it.

I have never been to this place and now won't ever be trying it. People who are cruel to animals make my blood boil.   That man should have the same thing done to him. Can I please be first in the queue to do it?

I wonder that, if this waiter is not working at the Cubana next year,by not visiting this restaurent you could be punishing this and not the waiter.
By the actions of one waiter could affect next years trade for this businness.
Wait and see if the culprit is working here next year before boycoting the place.

Well said Gene

Well said Gene.

We love Cubana the guys are lovely and we've become good friends with a few of the waiters.

I don't condone that sort of behaviour and would have confronted them had I seen any of them doing that but to ask people to boycot a place for one persons actions (unless it was the boss/owner of course) then that's a bit OTT.

Cubana's will be our first port of call Monday evening for our roast beef dinner Mmmmmmmmmmmmm !!!

Well i have a few opinions about this place because i dont like the owner, he is playing with girls/women in restaurant and he has own wife at home and two daughters..

One year waiter got fired because having sex in kitchen with turist girl..

And waiters are a bit naughty there (but i guess its normal in icmeler and its happening everywhere..) :)

Mostly people there are so nice but this year i really dont know whats going on, because them main waiter is doing army service.
So which kind of people there is working now..

Still horrible to kick some poor animal who cant do anything..
I dont believe any guys i know there, would do that.. Propably some new guy??

There's nothing like animal cruelty to cause a right stooshie on this forum.

Polly, I am very sorry that you witnessed what you did and I certainly would have reacted in the same manner as you. We probably spent as much time as you in the Cubana and you would have noticed how well we were treated by both the staff and the owner who, as you know is also a partner in the Ekinci. PM me with the culprits' names and I will contact him. It is obviously too late for the tortoise but it may give the staff a greater insight in to animal rights issues.

Talk about going off post, this is a beauty. I never once saw the owner doing what you are suggesting although, as in all other restaurants, the waiters are acting like gigolos. As far as sex in the kitchens go, I think that they might have gravitated to the gents'/ladies' toilets. Certainly some nights the smell of Chanelle in the gents' was overpowering but this could be explained by the waiters' habit of pinching perfumes. :D

Forgive but do not forget will be our watch phrase next year as we cannot condemn all for the misguided actions of some.

all I can say is that when we was there last month, after spending 2 evenings in there after meals the head barman decided to mess with my hubbys drink, instead of being a raki at then end of the night the drink turned into fanta, we passed the drink onto another guest and he even said that do's not taste like the raki he had earlier.

When we questioned the barman he went off the handle and started shouting and poured around a 1/4 of a bottle of raki into the glass of tango and said well there you go. We took it up with the owner who was there and basically he stood by the barman. My better half went to shake hands with the head barman at the end of the night but the barman went ballistic, so basically we told them we are here for another 2 1/2 weeks and we will NOT be coming in here again. Cliff on the door asked ever evening after this why don't you come here no more...simple ask the head barman Cliff.

Such a shame as the year before we spent a lot of time in the Cabana.

I must try Tango next year. 1/4 bottle of Raki, I was lucky if I was getting a 1/4 gill of the stuff. Last time I looked, straight Raki was the colour, or lack, of Vodka and with water, it was milky white and irrespective of either, it smelled like aniseed and tasted like cheap Pernod and gave the same hangover, especially after several Efes. Apart from this, I cannot believe that the silly wee boy behind the bar reacted in the manner you describe.

i have visited cubanas for the last three years with my family and will be visiting cubanas again next year i dont agree with the behavior of the waiter that done this to a defenseless tortoise but far worse goes on i saw a poor dog knocked over in august and kicked to the side of the road but i still love icmeler you cannot blame a resteraunt for the actions of a waiter or icmeler for the treatment of the dog
