Icmeler Online Holiday Forum & Reviews - Turkey

My friend and I have been to Icmeler several times on holidays, but next year we are looking to spend the summer in our favourite place in the whole world!

We are intending to go out to Icmeler for a week in April to look for somewhere to live from Late May - October.

Basically, I'm after some advice from people who have done it before, or know others who have stayed in the area for long periods of time.

Also, if anyone knows of any decent letting agents that we could contact prior to going apartment hunting in April, that would be really helpful!

Might be stating the obvious but you know your on a 90 day visa and will have to go out of the country and back to renew your visa if you are planing to stay that long most people go to Rhodos for the day to renew.

hey jools, i went out in april this year intending on doing the whole season but came home in july, we booked a package deal for a week and in tht week found an apartment to rent.
i stayed at grass apartments there lovely but u can find cheaper.
there really cheap nearer the old village but i wanted to be in the centre.
theres a good estate agents called century 21 which have alot to offer they showed us some excellent apartments above a restaurant oh i really cant remember the name but they were wanted long term people or seasonal but were cheap to say what was included.
yes you do have to go over to rhodes to renew your visa within 90days if you dont then theres big consequences!lol.
working out theres illegal unless you have residency which takes year to get, many do work on the sly tho!:)
living there can be hard but you will have the time of your life aswell!!
ive made so many good friends there that are friends for life and we all helped aechother out when struggling!
im doing it again next year and have learnt by mistakes this year to make next year even better!! if you have any questions im happy to help!! x

That's really helpful, especially as my daughter's planning to do the same next year. I might well get her to pick your brains on the subject, if that's ok!

Blondie make sure you get your daughter to start saving-my friend is over there and has spent a bomb, she has been there since April. She paid 600 ytl for her apartment and thats hers now up until October. Listening to her and a couple of others I dont think its as rosy as some people think, it can be hard work and I know that not many of her friends have lasted the full season which was there intention.

Thanks Doz, she's already saving - some posts on earlier threads have been really helpful and she knows it's not going to be a bed of roses, so to speak. That's why first-hand info from people who've been there and done it, and are not seeing it through rose-tinted specs, is so useful. She's pretty adamant that that's what she wants to do - so all I can do is make sure she has as much information at her disposal as possible beforehand.

I am sure she will still have a blast Blondie-she will be well looked after I am sure

I think Bec is due back in October, she's been there for the season so she will no doubt be able to give plenty of tips and advice.

I really appreciate your help with this. We are pretty experienced holidayers to Icmeler but this is a different kettle of fish for us.
Doz - I assume when you say it was 600ytl for an apartment, you mean per month??

Hi Jools No I am sure it was for the season-the apartments are nothing flash (pretty much a bed and bathroom) and thats about it, I will check with her if you like..it will give you an idea on what to budget for. This also included a maid service, apartment was nice and clean but very basic. I will try and get some contact details for the apartments too if you like?

i beleive it's much cheaper to book long term accom so £600 looks likely for the season - I do have a contact in Icmeler so PM me if you want his details, he's not an agent but has his own properties
word of warning though on working out there, if someone gets caught "doing it on the sly" or even staying beyond the 90 visa days, there are likely to be repercussions - which may include not being able to return to Turkey in the foreseeable or if you can, having to pay a much larger sum for the visa
if you're wanting to work, though work visas are hard to get for foreigners, it's easier if a potential employer [turkush] sorts them out
hope it all works out for you - keep us posted and wish I'd done it when I was younger [not got the bottle ha ha]

I very much doubt its £600 for a full season as even though its cheaper long term its not that cheap. If she has only paid that then it must be a bit of a hole. I know that the cheapest rooms in icmeler at the moment are at the Bella Mare hotel near to the main square on the corner near the main road. Its closed to tourists this year and the owners are renting it to staff / seasonal rents only. None of the facilities are open like pool / bar etc so its just a hotel room no self catering facilities either and they are about 400ytl a month I think. (about £170)

I have never known accomm to be so cheap but if I was you I would try an dfind something that at least has a kitchenette as then you can cook for yourself and save money in the longterm. A cheap room is all well and good but if you are having to eat out all the time it will cost a small fortune.

Also try to avoid using an estate agent o arrange your letting as you will pay a hefty commission instead rely on TRUSTED friends to help you find somewhere suitable.

Oh right! I didn't know Bella Mare was being used for that purpose. We stayed there once and it was the worst of the hotels we have stayed in!
We would be looking for somewhere with a kitchen and stuff, basically somewhere we can call home.

just had another thought though - won't estate agents charge commission? why not contact ICR about it - at least that way you could chat to them about what/where you want etc - though it would prob be cheaper if you can arrange things directly with an owner

It is possible to get small studios/apartments at that price. I met someone liveing over there last year she lived in the apartment above the supermarket next door to tommys bar. She was saying she only paid round about £600 for the seaon. Didn't go inside, but she said it was basic but clean.
