Right Colette, I'll start this thread because I'm getting quite depressed about all the things that people don't like about Icmeler now (including me on some threads )

I hate putting Icmeler down because I have had so many good times & happy memories, I feel like a traitor!!

I love the people and their friendliness, they are so open and always try to have a joke with you (my husbands a bit of a joker and he loves it).


I love to go on boat trips and lie in the sun watching the waves and the foam as it travels, the wind blowing through your hair and cooling you down.
I love to walk thru the old village .

I love the fact that even though we always go in September I don't need to pack a cardi and you can still walk about in a sleeveless dress at midnight.

I feel safe there and people seem to take a genuine interest in you and remember you from the year before. If you are not well or have a problem - I have heard so many stories of the locals helping holiday makers in need.
I suppose I'm looking thru rose coloured specs but I really don't think I will stop going to Icmeler until I am physically unable to.

I know Icmeler is changing but isn't everywhere?

What do other forum members think?

I would like to be one of the first to be on this topic by endorsing everything that skilly says and more so!
If you have followed some of the topics you will have seen me cropping up now and then, With I hope,constructive criticism or winging,"take your pick"
I think that you cant have any finer endorsment for somewhere,than planning to retire here, which my wife and I are planning to do, and that is why I show a lot of concern for my adopted "new home"
I rate Icmeler very highly and realise that a lot of of what is happening is only a whim that will go away in a few years as everything in life tends to do
The plusses far out number the negatives and will continue to do so!!

I also love the humour of the Turkish people and am just amazed at their memories, how do they remember you from previous years.

In 1993 I fell in love with a picture in a brochure,we had just come back from Olu Deniz which we enjoyed, anyway I booked the holiday to Icmeler
staying at the Efendi ( and did so till it was sold just wasn't the same).Now it's 2008 and we love Icmeler just as much now as in 1993.Yes it gets noisy
and yes the entertainment is dated but we just go with the flow and don't let anything spoil it . I put up with the noise and bad behavior in this country for 50 weeks of the year, so for 2 weeks away in Icmeler I am relaxed and I feel safe.

I holidayed in Icmeler for the first time a few weeks ago and can honestly say i left a little piece of my heart there.Nowhere else I have ever been has had this effect on me.The Turkish people were lovely,the scenery beautiful and for me a perfect balance of noisy and quiet places,and then I discovered the old village and that was the icing on the cake.

I know I am boring but I just Love Everything

Yes I agree with all that has been said. I love Icmeler, bad entertainment or not. Anyway I dont go on holiday to be entertained in a bar!!! I love the people and the fact that when I go which is twice a year I meet old friends, both English and Turkish. I dont care whether it has got pricey, I still love it and I think it is good value. Roll on four weeks and I shall be there

I can only endorse what has already been said on this thread - I too love Icmeler and would love to live there some day. Not only is it a beautiful place, but the people are what make it so wonderful - they are so genuinely friendly and welcoming, it makes your holiday so special. We visited for the first time last October, and as we were only there for a week, I was amazed when we returned in June at the number of people who remembered us and greeted us like long-lost friends. I genuinely think Icmeler has something for everyone - from the livelier, louder music-orientated bars to the quieter, more traditional places, and long may that continue.

I am the same and agree with what Skilly says. I know I have had a bit of a moan in previous threads, but I have also defended it aswell.

I love the weather.
The Food.
The Friendly people.
The Laid Back feel it has.
The Beauty of the place.
The Walk along the prom at night.
The simple but effective transport system.
The cheapness of things (it's still good value for money)

I could go on, but can't think of anything else.

we love the people, the cheesy songs, being woken by the Imam and cockerels, the friends we've made I could go on and on and on .........

Reading your post, fanny, it's funny, but on another forum, I read a poster where someone was complaining that they didn't like Turkey because they got woken up by the imam and the cockerels every morning! What exactly were they expecting? I agree with you, by the way, it's all part of the wonderful Icmeler experience!

every year i cringe when the eurovision comes on at the awful songs
but then I have a chuckle cos I know that by the time I've heard them ad infinitum in Icmeler, I'll love them - and probably know the dance that goes with them ha ha

When people ask me why Icmeler, the first thing I mention are the green pine clad mountains that surround it, the smell of pine itself and the hum of the industrious honey bees constantly buzzing to and fro.

I tell them about the crystal clear waters that lap against the shoreline, a soft gentle rhythm that sends you to sleep on your sun bed and the fish that nip your legs if you stand still too long.

I try to put across how the sky above Icmeler is the purest blue you will ever see, a pure blue that is only tarnished, very very occasionally, by a lone cloud drifting across it.

I sometimes tell them about the eating and drinking aswell !!

The ones that cant tell the time!!,"2.00, 1200, 4.00, O.Clock etc
Its a standing joke where we are!!
We sleep with our patio doors wide open, and listen to the wonderfull sounds that nature provides us with,
Not just the cockerels,but the owles hooting, the jays screaching and numerous other unknown sounds.
Its a wonderfull sound to go to sleep to, and waken up to, talk about de-stressing!!,
This is in my book, got to be, IT !!!,
Its called "ICMELER"

I love being woken up in the middle of the night cos then I remember where I am and remember it won't be long before I'll be out in the sunshine
oh and that's another thing I love, watching the sun come up and feeling the intense heat as it gets over the mountains

I love meeting old friends and new
Efes in an ice cold glass on the beach
having a lovely walk evening walk along the prom
Watching the terrific thunderstorms when they happen
eating Lamachun for lunch and the odd kebab for tea


Simple things but this makes my holidays.

Icmeler will always have a special place in my heart.
