we got back in the small hours of yesterday and Dalaman is red hot on charging for overweight luggage - we've never known it before

one guy was charged for being 2kg over!!!

the rate they charge seems to depend on which airline you fly with - Onur are charging £2 per kilo over, not sure on the rates with other airlines

I'd suggest cramming as much as you can into your hand luggage as they don't always charge for or weigh that

*ooh err* I can't imagine that I'll be able to keep mine anywhere near under 15kgs, outbound or inbound. I'd better do some serious overtime before my hols.

I paid £30 to increase our luggage allowance from 15kg to 20kg with Thomas cook. The problem seems to be that on the return journey the average tourist has purchased items adding to the weight brought from home, with the added complication of check in scales erring on the + rather than the -- side The simple solution is to take less or to take items that can be discarded ie toiletries and older clothes ,(for jeep trip)leaving some capacity for items purchased in resort.
Don't we all take far to much clothing ? bearing in mind the climate dictates that only minimal clothing is neccessary.

If you're flying Tommy Crook airlines they'll charge £6 per kilo you are over your baggage allowance - either way.

My advice - pack heavy stuff in your hand luggage - they don't weigh that! That's what I'll be doing!

That's good advice Mazz. I'll do that plus buy my toiletries either air-side or in Icmeler itself (and I'll be leaving them there too).

Mazz I got charged £8 per kio with Thomas Cook just last week coming back from Icmeler so I think they must have put their rates up! The woman in front of me was 10 kilos over-what a bummer! I was only 2 kilos over so not too bad!

It puts such a damper on your holiday if you are worrying about being a few kgs over your limit.Dont these Holiday companies realise that.Yet they will sell you as much duty free on the plane as they can.(I know its weight transferance)
Why dont Airport operators let you buy on the way out and let you pick up on the way back in.That would save on fuel.
They must have a special department called 'How else can we screw our customers'

We were charged £8 per kilo at Dalaman on 9th August they put the prices up that week. Were were two kilo's over I'll be taking a bigger hand luggage bag next time, I only had a small handbag, but they don't take that into account .

£8 per kilo is shocking!!

If you're really worried, I was told by the check-in girl at Bristol in May that you can always weigh your suitcase on one of the check in desks not in use - they are all linked to the same computer system.

At least if you're over your weight you have the opportunity to juggle some stuff between hold and hand luggage.

I've said this before though.... how long before they start weighing people - it's just another way to squeeze a bit more money out of you.

I'll definately weigh my case on unused scales in September when I return, never been charged before, the only consolation was that we got seats with extra legroom without being charged, maybe the guy on the check in desk felt guilty carrying out the strict unreasonable rule! there were plenty of others being charged aswell as us.

I hope they don't start weighing people! especially at £8 per kilo overweight! Now that's scaring me

hi im flying out 28 this month try and pack as little as possible cause everything you need clothing wise is available in resort kids clothes are very cheap men can buy 3 quarter trousers and t shirts cheap women can get tops and shorts all sizes from underground market take toiletries and sun lotion with you as these are expensive in resort i know we all go mad with buying in turkey dont let it cost you coming back happy holidays cheers

Hi when we went in June we arrived at Dalaman and were 3kg over and flying with T***** C*** and were charged £7 a kg = £21, however we were charged 60lira, now can someone tell me that this doesnt add up and in the fluster of things we didnt think to add it all up until we got home so yes we were ripped off, I would just watch them as like others have said they just want to get as much money out of you before you leave, next thing you know they will be charging us £10 to get out of Turkey lol!!!!!

I'd refuse to pay the ten pounds to get out of Turkey
We were with TC aswell. I thought charging for 2 kilo's over was ridiculous.

When i was coming home last year
2 of us put our suitcases on like they say and then they left them on whilst telling us to put another one on, they took them away and then decided to tell us they were over weight and charged us £40 which was annoying because they didnt even bother telling us before they took the suitcases! Unfortunatly i was the ony one with english money on me so i had to pay and had no money for the airport!
None of us were over weight on the way back this year, thank life as i wouldnt be payin £40 pound again

We were 2kgs over and were charged £6 kilo. I had the clever idea of getting a bigger handbag just to put heavy stuff in and the blighters included that!

We must have been some of the lucky ones then. We flew with Onur Air and on the way out from EMA 2 of our cases were overweight but they just put the red HEAVY stickers on and no charge. On the way back we just kept feeding them through and again nothing was said. There was ten of us travelling so perhaps they didn't want to delay the queues behind us!

we were told by our rep to use the empty check in weight thingys to check yourself if you were a bit scared. I found them at dalamar on thursday night to be very nice never saw a problem.

When we came back in June we had 40 kgs allowance collectively and when they put our bags on we were 43kg. We had a baby with us so tried to ask them to let us off but there was no way they were going to let us away with it. My husband is turkish and he tried to persuade them but they just told us to pay it. I knew there was no way we were over as on the way out we had only been 30kgs and we certainly hadn't bought 10kg of stuff!! We argued it out but ended up walking away and trying to re-arrange our stuff. We took out a box of turkish delight that we knew weighed 1kg and a bag of rice mix(250g).

When we went back to a diff check in desk we only weighed 34kg!!! We were so miffed as it was obvious that the original scales were wrong but when we pointed it out they got so angry and said if we didnt check in quietly we wouldn't be allowed on the flight!! As a former rep I know shouting doesn't get you anywhere so although we were making our point we weren't being noisy or aggressive or anything just think we touched a sore point! We did put a complaint in to the customr services desk but not heard anything since! I think its all a bit dodgy and just a way for ATM (the airport owners) and the airlines to make a quick buck!

we was told by our rep they dont weigh hand luggage and they never did with anyone, we had to pieces of hand luggage and they was 7 each. we went with first choice, but they never weighed hand luggage.

What happens if you say that you dont have any money to pay for the extra
