Its not just Turkey!!

Postby peli » 16 Aug 2008 23:08

Hi All
Having just spent a couple of hours reading forums and threads from various other countries some with euro and some with their own currancy I have to say the same concerns regarding exchange rate and it being more expensive is mentioned time after time.mirroring what is being said on here.
Even down to the same sayings;-
Pricing their selves out!!
We arnt going back!!
Going all inclusive!!
Etc
Its the state of the international markets that is the problem, and not Turkey and especialy Icmeler being greedy!! as some people seem to think they are being.
The pound is on its arse!! and untill it recovers we are the poor relations
I think for anyone thinking that they will get it cheaper else where will find it not so, if they can good luck to them. Ok may be some bars etc are charging over but that is solved by not going in them!
I think untill or, if the pound, recovers we are stuck with a low exchange rate, which is the main problem, who remembers the euro being 1.45ish and higher, your lucky to get 1.20 now so its not just the Ytl
Also the Turkish economy has got stronger over the years and I say good luck to them, I suggest you invest your money here!!

I agree with what you are saying but its not about money to me.
The rising cost will not deter me ,but as is being discussed on another thread, the commercialisation of Icmeler will possibly persuade me to look for somewhere else (in Turkey of course) which is like our Icmeler of years gone by

Hi Skilly
I have to agree with you
There are the two separate issues here, I too go back a long way and am not too happy about the commercialisation.

The reason I brought this up is, that time and time again, on numerous differant threads people seem to be blaiming the Turkish "THEM", who ever they mean by that??

When the true reason is the world economy, for instance Turkish electric up 35% this year, also Turkey have to import most of their oil. it goes on and on!

"Them", are in the same boat as us along with a lot of other civalised countries

The problem is all around the world. It's the pound that is weak, so where ever you go when you exchange money you wont get rates as we have in the past because the pound is not worth what it used to be.

After reading a couple of article about inflation and the money markets I don't think it is the Turkish economy that has gotten stronger just there use of taxation which used to be quite low but are now jumping on the band wagon pushing taxation past the point of no return don't forget the government is in control of taxation policies as to putting money in to Turkey as an investment I don't think so a number of years ago part of Turkey's economy was the tourism industry what happens when people realise it is now just as expensive as the U.K. and you have still got to get there flights to Turkey now are more expensive than going to most other countries in Europe which adds up to a very expensive holiday if you go because you love the place alls well but if you are looking for value for money.

My experience of the Turks is that they work much harder than most countries.

They may work harder but it is not reflected in the pay they take home it amazes me how they survive on what they are paid, mind you they don't have to pay for heating bills 24/7.

Re:- investment in Turkey
I have a bank" investment" account that pays 17.4%, compound interest 15.5% net, although it is in YTL, quick equasion is that it will "double my money in 5yrs", What are ISAs paying in UK????
The way the pound to ytl is going I know where my money will be!!
Also I invested with the exchange rate at 2.7ish, so if I bought sterling back now I could make!!, especialy with the rate at 2.1
So Im happy investing in Turkey !!!
