Icmeler Online Holiday Forum & Reviews - Turkey

Hi everyone,

Just back from our yearly stay and am wondering if icmelerites have noticed a change in the behaviour of people now holidaying in Icmeler? We have endured 10 days of loud, abusive, vulgar, rude and generally yobbish behaviour from a party of guests from England. Their behaviour was such that it disturbed peoples sleep and frightened younger guests because of banging doors, screaming and shouting, running up and down stairs and generally intolerant behaviour. Again this behaviour is taking a sinister turn and I wouldn't want Icmeler to become another Mali etc.
The owners should take responsibility for ensuring that these things are not allowed to happen. Yes I agree that everyone is on holiday and as such are having a good time, but when sleep patterns and safety are compromised then surley owners have to take responsibilty?
This took a turn for the worse when instead of the owner taking action I took it upon myself to speak to one of the guests concerned and an altercation ensued, slight, but then again something I have never experienced in my last 11 years of holidaying in Icmeler.With flights now becoming more expensive, prices rising and the atmosphere changing, Icmeler will lose the lose the families like myself that are respectful towards other people and have our own ways of enjoyng ourselves without the need for binge drinking, swearing and generally lewd and vulgar behaviour! I will fill you all in with the details when I get the chance later but suffice to say the amount of sleep lost during this holiday is now catching up with me.

We noticed it last year and I think I spoke about it on my review there was fighting by a bunch of drunken young english lads with the staff from wonderboys the police were called to break it up

A lot of familes walked out and vowed never to return to wonderboys or Icmeler again

We go on the 18th for two weeks so we will see what it is like this year before deciding if we will return again

hi , i always stay in marmaris but always read this forum, i have noticed a massive change in marmaris and its in danger of becoming the new ibiza etc etc , i hope not as its an amazing part of the world but its going to lose its more loyal customers by going down this road

then again its all about money , who spends more teens drinking all night for 14 nights or us guys sat by the pool and sea just enjoying a relaxing break from the everyday life

Unfortunately, I think the worsening behavior of (mainly) Brits abroad is a reflection of 'our' general decline as a polite and considerate nation. Of course, the main offenders are in the minority but it's always those rotten few that manage to tarnish it for the rest of the decent and well behaved holidaymakers.

I guess that we just have to hope that this sort of yobbish mentality doesn't take hold in Icmeler as it has in many other holiday resorts or it'll indeed be a very sad outcome.

the world is full of r-soles, last year i saw some 17 year olds have a fight because they had a couple too many. In the hotel teens were spitting down on people, how lovely.

Its a good job it didnt hit me because they would have followed their spit over the balcony. im not very torerant with idiots.

REMEMBER unruly behaviour can end in PRISON Turkish JAILS are a bit strickter than here, and rightly so . did anyone see the film midnight express? & no visitors. <anyone can be clever but taking the punishment is another matter. bill atkinson

we came back in july and noticed a change as i posted in my reveiw its such a shame in all our years of going to turkey we had never come across it befor its in danger of becoming ibiza, malaga ect the appart/ hotels need to keep a check on it and i think (imo) its when you get large numbers of family/ friends 30 plus this can sometimes make small groups /couples feel slightly intimadated with there loud behaviour we will come back next year but if it gets any worse will try somewhere new the year after .
have also noticed the north/south divide attitude a couple of times which is such a shame as we have made some really good friends from different parts of the country why whats happened

I tend to go slightly off season in either may or September and so far have never seen any trouble. High season as a rule does tend to attract more trouble not only in Turkey but in particular Greece and Spain.

Much as I hate saying it if there is any trouble abroad it tends to be Brits causing the this, mainly large groups of lads/ladettes

Noticed on the telly today that arrests in Spain and France have taken a huge jump this year, so its not just Icmeler

As otheres have said if this does start to creep into Icmeler many familes will vote with their feet. To some extent some of the bar owners need to look at themselves and when they see someone has had too much to drink,stop serving them although I appreciate this can be very difficult

Unfortunatly i just think it's a reflection of the way our culture has gone down hill... it seems being brought up with manners and respect for others has gone out the window these days in our society. Im only 21 and was embarrassed to be british in some bars/restaurants in icmeler thanks to some of my fellow nationals.

You're right in what you say Kerry, and it's a shame that people work hard for their holidays and then have to put up with these cretins.

I haven't been back yet, but we kept ourselves to ourselves last year and apart from one drunk who showed us up we had no trouble at all. I felt for our apartment owner who was gutted because he was doing the best he could and it was not good enough for the person concerned. We stayed out of the town centre at night apart from twice so had quiet evenings in the old village but still partied til 3am Maybe that's the key

5 weeks to go and first the a**e falls out of the pound as it did last year following Northern Rock and now Icmeler is swarming with drunken neds and yobs.

Gies a break, anybody got some upbeat posts Please don't tell me that the Efes brewery is planning a strike

I was looking forward to our hols in 3 weeks, but now I'm not so sure.
We did see a group of drunken English youths a few years ago and they were walking through the centre shouting obscenities to the Turkish people who were sitting outside of the jewellers near the square.

I felt embarrassed to be English, the Turks just looked at them as if they were idiots which they certainly were!

I also will see how it goes this year before deciding whether to return. Last year the incessant competition between bars for the loudest music put me off as it was worse than ever before. I really don't want to stop going to Icmeler as to me it is paradise after working hard all year.

Lets just hope these lager louts haven't fallen in love with Icmeler ( I don't think they will as they haven't got the sensitivity!) and move on to somewhere else, Do they have bouncers in Icmeler does anyone know?

As of the 1st sept 2008 the Effes brewery has decided to reduce the cost of their products by 60%, which will make the price of a large bottle of beer 1.25ytl

Also they are allowing the 3000 aprentice belly dancers free accomadation for the rest of the season to practice their dancing on the beach duering the day and in selected bars at night

There is also a possabilty that 500 young bucks are arriving on the 3rd topping up their tans before going world wide on their individual tours as chippendales??{thats to keep you women happy I believe]

And the local police have given the public every assurence that knobheads will be banged-up!!

There is also a strong story going round that a benevolent landowner can be found at midnight on the old market offering 3ytl to the £ but this has not been verified!

we didnt see any trouble, but i found the german to be very rude when walking around the canel at night time, pushing, and shoving, standing on your feet, just generally rushing....

i also think it depends who is staying when you are there.......and i dont mean to sound a snob here.....

we were having a lovely time, until chav family turned up, they were quite friendly with the owner so nothing was said......but they were the first ones to leave there towells on the sunbeds.....

the 2 kids aged over 11 at least were rude, swearing, shouting all the time, and very dirty mouthed, parents never told them off.........

and when out and about, several times i felt embarrassed to be british.

but, must add, we didnt see any drunken, laddish, etc trouble.....

Germans rude.. ..never..!

We went to Icmeler for the first time in July & whilst we were there we actually commented on how nice it was to NOT see any trouble. We were a group of 10 (3 couples & 4 children) so we did tend to frequent more family based establishments & I don't recall seeing any groups of just lads/ladettes. We found both the Turkish & other holidaymakers extremely friendly & helpful.

We did, however, go to the waterpark in Marmaris one day & I saw a Scottish lady shouting at some young girls about how wrong it was to pick on children. The young girls were obviously foreign as they looked like they didn't understand a word she was saying. Unfortunately, by the end of the day, I found myself doing the same thing. There was quite a few Russians at the park & whilst our children would queue politely for the floats & rubber rings, the Russians would then take them out of the childrens hands & then push to the front of the queue for the slide. I'm only 4ft 11 but I certainly made my annoyance clear on a couple of occasions that day

maybe i just lucky but ive never seen any trouble but dont go high of season
Might be the law of averages the more hoilday makers there are the more trouble caused

The holiday makers concerned were 30 somethings with young kids.They treated the place like their own timeshare and had all the waiters running after them constantly.Glad to see other people are experiencing the same problems and it wasn't just our family.

We didn't see any problems, whilst we were there. The only people that shocked me were when I went into Marmaris for the night. There was this common familly in a bar, and they had let there child get so burned she had second degree burns to her shoulder, and they were loud and lairy. But didn't see anyone in Icmeler that I would of said was drunk and causing any probs.
