Does the visa you get at passport control mean you can stay there for 3 months without needing anything else?

Yes but when you say 3 months it is 90 days, that is from your first day of arrival to your last day of departure
if you want to stay longer you can take a day trip to Rhodos and on re-entry get another 90 day visa,save going back to UK,

hi, i have just renewed my passport but my entry visa is still valid in my old one which I have, will i have to get a new visa when i go back in a few weeks even though the old visa is still in the 90 days

Shoudnt think so becouse it has to be stamped and I dont think they will stamp an out of date passport and allow you through with no stamp on your new one but heah its Turkey what do we know!!!

tell me about it, when we was there in July the guy in the 'little glass box' threw my passport back at me and my daughter

I also got my passport thrown back at me when I last went to Icmeler, it had a passport cover on and apparently they don't like that. The man in the glass box wouldn't look at it until I'd taken the cover off.

Thats probably what happens to you being shut up in a glass box all day Its sad really just think to yourself Im on holiday and your stuck in your L G B ox all day and walk away smileing
