Does anybody know if you get charged to withdraw money from the cash points i have a halifax account??

Depends on your banks own policy. I know that Nationwide don't charge, dunno about Halifax tho.

To be honest all banks get money out of you one way or another, and the way things are going I can't see Nationwide doing this for much longer. Your card suplier will let you know what the charge is if you phone your bank up, it can be up to 5% which if you consider if you draw 500 quid out its going to be 25 quid... total rip off.

I have a halifax electron card and when I use it on holiday I get charged £1.50 per withdrawal although the exchange rate I get tends to be slightly higher than in resort (notice on my return when I view my statement).

Also if you are going to use it on holiday best to let the bank know before hand, as last year I couldn't use my card and so called them and it was because I hadn't told them I would be using it abroad.

yes mines a visa electron as well but I never knew about phoning them. I'll be on the phone tomorrow.

I have the normal Halifax visa account and they charge.If you have never used it outside the UK before make sure you phone and tell them or they may freeze your account as a security measure and you don't want to end up not being able to get at your dosh!

LLoydstsb charge £1 per transaction for their debt cards and dont have the facility on their system to register that you will be using your card abroad, so if your transaction is blocked you have to phone to unblock it. Blocking is usually caused by the banks random security check, can be a little inconvinient but I would rather have a check done than have someone clear out my account. Might be worth phoning just to ask if they have a direct number you can call should this happen.

Yes what Andrea says about Halifax is true, you need to let them know you'll be using your card abroad and it is £1.50 per transaction. What i found out was that if you tried to use your card abroad without telling them they think its been stolen and they then try to get in contact with you. Not much use if you're in Turkey and they don't have your mobile number, and you need money from the machine.

i have a barclays card and never got charged

Is yours a barclays connect card.

I have used mine to withdraw sterling out of the HSBC machine in Icmeler and i thought i got charged a minimal amount but i could be wrong.

Have to get my card activated if i want to use it over there so anyone with a Halifax account ring up and tell them or youll be stuck and wont be able to get any money lol

hi all more reason to get a nationwide flexi a/c exchange rate in june was cash 2.40 at best card 2.46 & no charges. more effes for me
