The water pipes sticking out from shops

Postby Not the weakest link » 11 Jul 2008 09:26

Hi something I keep meaning to ask and forget to do.

What are those pipes with water coming out of them that are at the front of some of the shops used for, that are on the route from Dalaman to Marmaris / Icmeler.

Every year I see all this water gushing out and I keep thinking what a waste when water must be scarce in August with the heat and not much rain.

I've never seen anyone use them and there's no cows, sheep or goats or farmers passing by to utilise it.

Plus wouldnt it be nice to import some of that Turkish marble home so i can have marble worktops in my kitchen and not pay thousands over here for the pleasure.

as donna says they are used for cooling cars down as regards to wasting water this isnt a problem in this part of turkey the whole mountain system inland is full of water and the valleys you come through are the natural drainage system I was talking to some locals about the water in Icmeler the other week and they say that it will take 3yrs of no rain before it effects the Icmeler water table

Hi Bev, should try a jeep safari sometime, the last one we went on parked the jeep under one of those, only real problem we were still in it at the time, very refreshing, to be fair the driver did warn us to put our cmeras out of the way so we knew what was coming.

A little story showing the entrepreneur mind of the turkish kids a few years ago we used a hire car to do a lot of sightseeing and on returning down the road from Dalaman pulled in to use one of the water pipes the second we were under it the water stopped before I could think what sin I had commited the winscreen was covered in soapsuds not being able to see a thing outsde we had to await the outcome suddenly the water was back on and we were greeted by two grinning little faces with bucket and sponges we never saw them when driving in so presume they were hiding waiting for rental plate cars{tourists} my wife gave them a couple of million as it then was and off they shot into the shop Id like to say these two little devils will get on in life in fact Im sure they will
