Flight cancellation summer 2006

PostPosted: 10 Feb 2006 15:48

I read with interest a post on the HT site that many flights to Turkey are being cancelled or altered due to lack of demand caused by the bird flu scare. My own flight on 21 July has been altered from a My travel flight to a Monch flight going an hour later so not to bad but some have had them altered to different days or airports. We only found this out as we had a revised invoice from the air carrier. Anyone else had any problems? :( Di.

Yes we have had our flight changed three times, 1st time going out changed from 9.20pm to 8.20pm, then coming back first of all from 12.05 am, to 1.25am and then last week to 3.30am. Having chosen a good return flight, this has changed to one of those almost nightmare flights , but there is nothing you can do about it having booked with thomas cook direct. Still you don't think about coming back, do you?.

Hi Andy

Our flight is from Manchester and was booked through Travel Republic with Freedom Flights so it doesnt seem to be only Thomas Cook that is making changes. We have to book a late Friday night flight or a Sat/Sun flight due to work commitments so as long as they dont bring it forward to the middle of the say on Friday I will be OK. Here's hoping - Di.

Just had another email to that say that our return flights have got even worse, they have changed from 03.30 to 04.50 on the saturday morning.
However i have just been on the fly thomas cook website and changed our return flight to 17.30 on the friday evening before, it has cost me an extra £50 for the 3 of us but feel that the fee is well worth it.
Just lets hope they don't get changed again.

Never mind Andy, if they get changed again you may end up with another night out in Icmeler

Flight time changes seem to be happening more and more - I've been away twice since October and am going away in 4 weeks, and all of the flight times have changed at least once.
I try and look on the bright side ........ better to find out now than hang about at the airport (esp on the way out there)
Have a good hol anyway!!

I think we have payed a little less than that, but you have still got a good price, hope you are happy with your flight times and they remain the same.

Just received a letter from First Choice saying flights have changed. We were flying with Pegasus out of Newcastle on July 10th at around 9 pm but its been changed to a Thomas Cook flight the same day at 9 am so thats better at least. Instead of getting to Icmeler at 3 am on the Tueaday we now arrive 3 pm on the Monday

Thats fine, but what would happen if you had work commitments.

Agree with Andy on this one. My hubby has fixed holidays (miners fortnight as it used to be called) last week in July first week in August so we need to fly either late Friday night, Saturday or Sunday. last year our 2230 Friday night flight was rescheduled to 1230 Friday lunch. What a nightmare. He had to grovel at work to get the extra day off as well as loosing a day's pay. Just hope the same thing doesn't happen this year. It always seems there is one rule for them and another for everybody else. If you want to change anything they charge you a fee but they seem to be able to get away with murder. Di

For anyone travelling to Dalaman from Exeter Airport this summer:

The Friday flights have definitely been cancelled and it appears that not all passengers have been informed of the cancellation yet (although they were axed a while ago).

The Monday flights are still going ahead, but the times have changed:
The flights are now departing at 9.35am and picking up at Cardiff on the way. The return flight leaves Dalaman at 6am, getting back to Exeter at 8am (unless you're travelling the 1st/2nd week of May where there's no change). Not everybody has been informed of this change either.

If you've booked with Thomas Cook you probably haven't been informed yet as they seem slower than ever to inform their passengers of changes. :?

There is a thread on Holiday Truths if you want to read more about it.

No they must let you now before so you can print off your confirmation, our flights back have changed again, only by 1 hour according to the flight details, but they have yet to let us now. I think this will be the last time we book flights/ accommodation seperately as this will be about the 6th time the flights have been changed. This beeing with thomas cook.
You never seem to get this problem when you book a package.

Andy where did you get this info from about not having the problem when booking a package, so you do want us to believe that out of say 150 people booked on your flight if nearly full that they are all flight only and have also booked their flight seperately.

All these people have booked packages and so have all the people on all the other flights that have been changed every day of every week and its because that they have all their eggs in one basket so to speak by booking the full package with these companies that now they think that they can do what they want with you.

Ours flights also changed many times with packaged holidays. This is the first time we have gone independently and have chose to go with ICR and so far, so good. Just hope things continue to go smoothly, at least you know who you are talking to on the other end of the phone if you have any queries..
