Who has been going the longest?

Postby bellabella » 08 Jul 2008 07:57

I first visted Icmeler in 1996, has anyone been going for longer?
Maybe Gene could set up one of his famous lists of when we all went for the first time

First went in 1989. Stayed at the Kanara Hotel beside the canal. You should have seen the canal in those days! Holiday company recommended staying full board at the hotel as there were not very many eating spots!
How things have changed. :D

I started going in 1998, i remember the days when the road where the waterfall is used to be all turkish houses and the back road where Titanic and Pyramid are accross the road from there was just turkish village right back to the mountains, i wish i had taken more photos at the time to show people as it has changed dramatically, maybe some one has taken photos back then

I remember wakling down from the square towards the beach and Kontes and Cocos were on either side of the road and then there was nothing after that-that was the end of Icmeler!! Its expanded a zillion times over since then!

I remember that Doz as well. The only road I remember in 1992 was the one the Dolmus goes on, up passed the Mersoy etc. The rest were all dirt tracks. The old village was a long way from the new part ,with nothing in between.

1992 for me as well. I can remember thinking, oh no what are we going to do for a fortnight, there's nothing here !! Turned out to be the best holiday we've ever been on and we fell in love with the place. My ex took a lot of photos I'll see if I can get him to root them out for me.

I have been going for 13 years when the exchange rate was 72,000 lira to the pound! It has changed alot since i have been there and the season is alot quieter than previous years. The football helped the locals but its a shame that they didn't win! The police and council who are shutting places down for alleged hassling need to work with the locals to boost tourism not kill it!

The first time I went to Icmeler was in the early 90's. :D
There was another gulf war on and the fighter planes were flying directly over the beach. They were flying that low you could see the pilots
