We need new suitcases for this years hols and wondered which were the best. OH wants to try the hard bodied ones but I think they would weigh more than fabric ones, which would mean taking a bit less stuff. Also do they crack easily? I don't want all my clothes all over the carousel when I get to Dalaman. I once saw a woman picking all her underwear up when her case got broken! Any advice? Also is it best to get a decent make or are the bog standard ones as good? Thanks!

we have the expandable, hard bodied cases and they are really durable, bog standard make up is ok as it is so hot you probably won't bother much until the evening.

We bought the hard bodied ones and only used them once they were smashed to bits, courtesy of Dalaman. We now have soft bodied ones that have been brilliant and cost £12.00 each not £60.00 each.

Got mine from Primark, it's huge also expendable. cost me £22 it's soft bodied. It's done me 4 holidays so far, and still no signs of it nearing end of its life yet. Everyone comments on how nice they are when we go away.

I bought lovely expensive hard bodied suitcases last year and on arrival at EMA, they were cracked to pieces and parts missing. Must be a bit heavy handed at Dalaman! I have gone for soft bodied this year, so fingers crossed.

Have used hard bodied and soft bodied suitcases and no bother with either, however have gone for a large holdall pull along for September little lighter than suitcase so couple more pairs of shoes can come with me

ive used the silver hard bodied case 3 times to turkey and its been ok, then i realised it weighed 5 k empty now i leave it at apts over in icmeler with our summer gear in it ,saves bringing it back and forwards each time we go ,and less worry about being over weight at airport.as above i us a large holdall its light and plenty of room in it.

Has anyone tried those holdalls on wheels? Just wondering if they weigh heavy or not and what there like?

I just have a basic old style case as it weighs nothing at all more room for my clothes

We have them Got them Debenhams there not cheapo's
Mine with clothes etc quite a few weighs 12kilo
Jans has more in weighs 14kilo

Hard cases we gave away some weigh 5kilo
first trip was April no damage at all

colette i bought mine in icmeler in may ,it has wheels on and is just like pulling a case behind you , i paid 20 lira for it .

We used the holdall on wheels this year and it was fine, hardly weighs anything so more room for bringing things back. Thought we might be over on our return but no 19.3kg so was well pleased because we had a lot of stuff in there.

Thanks John, I was worried they wouldn't have a big capacity in them, but the average one is as big as my case, might have to get one this year, a nice pink one

Watchout how thick the material is SOME are THIN
They will tear

Collette got mine in Priceless for £10 and seems to be quite good quality material too will find out I guess in september

I bought lightweight cases which are a cross between a case and a holdall in Icmeler last year cost about £40 for 3 of them. This was after I had spent a fortune on the hard cases out of Debenhams which I left with the waiters in our hotel.

I pack the side with my towels and other soft things to protect stuff inside.

The only problem with the ones I bought is they are a half moon shape and you cant stand them up on their end or they fall over (didnt think about that at the time), but you can get lots in them.

We've got Tripp light, hard shell cases bit pricey but worth every penny.

Bought quite a few cheapy cases and they've been wrecked. Had these for 3 holidays now and only a tiny knock to one of them.

If you like them go for the medium size cases, we have the large but they're too big really, you could fill a medium case to 20kg, the large there's lots of room left in them.
