Icmeler Online Holiday Forum & Reviews - Turkey

Hi Everyone, well me and my family are going on our 3rd visit to Icmeler on the 17th July, 20 days and counting!! We are going to book an excursion for the Horse safari and i was hoping that some of you might have experienced this and be willing to tell us what it was like, how much it cost, is a meal included etc etc. We have 2 daughters aged 7 and 8 and we would like to know if this is an excursion they can enjoy aswell!!! On our last visit to Icmeler we went on the jeep safari and that was one of our best days of the whole holiday so we are hoping the Horse Safari will be just as much fun Any information on this excursion will be much appreciated, thanks everyone!! Hi Martin we went on the horse safari 2yrs ago and to be honest i would not take children on the trip. We ranged from 20yrs to 55 yrs and when they say you go in small rivers, even the horses were swimming. I would rather be honest, than someone get injured and my sons horse threw him when a tractor went past, then the tractor made my horse go in to bramble bushes. There is no insurance in Turkey and to be totally honest i did not think it safe for adults !!!!! The best thing to do is to go but, hire the buggy which follows the horses drove by a Turkish gent. Hi martin i have to agree with Jemini. I went on the safari last year with my friend and i have never been so petrified in all my life. We didnt even get a riding hat to wear. The boys leading the safari kept whipping the horses if they werent going fast enough and some of the horses were falling out with other horses- getting really nasty and bucking up. When my horse saw water he started running really fast and i nearly fell of a couple of times. When we were returning to the stables my horse legged it so fast into his stable he nearly decapitated me on the low roof of his stable. To be honest we laugh about it now but there is no way I would take my children on it I really dont think it is safe.Hope you have a great holiday.

Thank you both for your replies about the horse safari. I'm not sure if we will chance this excursion now as we now know what you both thought of it as being dangerous, we will have to try something else instead!! Never mind there is so much to do in icmeler i'm sure we will find something that is safe and fun ,Thanks again,take care, Martin and Kim

I don't know who the other 2 posters went with but i was thinking of doing this when i go in September and i was going to book mine through ICR. Maybe send a message to admin and ask if any of the staff have actually done the horse safari and what the company is like that they use.

We did the horse safari last week and had a great time. We booked ours through ICR and had no problems.
There were children on our safari and they seemed to be enjoying theirselves. None of them wore hats but I did notice there were hats hanging up in the shelter where we started from.
We were all asked if we had ever ridden a horse before and those who hadn't were given smaller or mild mannered horses. The horses were led or rode gently around and it was only the last 300 yards or so on the way back that we were asked if we wanted to gallop the last part of the journey. Some of us did but some just cantered the last part as well.

You only actually do a couple hours of riding through the forest and a few rivers. The children did not go through any of the deeper parts of the river if they didn't want to.

Thanks Sanjo for posting a review on your day out on the Horse Safari,sounded like you had a great time .....i also had a look at the photo's you mentioned and it looked like you were enjoying yourself!!! Both your review and photo's have been a great help to us that we still might consider doing this excursion....5 days and me and my family fly off to Icmeler for 2 weeks, i can't wait!!! Well me and my family have been back home nearly 4 weeks from our holiday in Icmeler and we had yet another great holiday!!! We all went on the horse safari and we had a great time,i'm so glad we decided to give it a try after the negative comments we read about how dangerous it was. We will definately be doing it again when we go back next year!!! . Kim and Martin.
