Icmeler Online Holiday Forum & Reviews - Turkey

I have a real fear of bugs - especially cockroaches since we went to Lanzarote - are there many in Icmeler and what do you do to keep them out of the apartment? What can people recommend for keeping mozzies at bay too - something from UK or a local (turkish) brand? Only 4 weeks 5 days to go - yaaahhooooo!!

don't be worrying about cockroaches - we've only seen one in all of our 9 visits!
as for Mozzies, we take plug ins from home and they work a treat - again they are no where near as bad as say Corfu in our experience
the only place I've ever notice loads of bites is after visiting the market, maybe that's just me?
am sure others will be along soon with their tips/suggestions

Thanks Fanny - was really worried about the cockroaches - will take your advice about the plug - in thing and see what others say about the mozzies (little blighters!)

I have never seen a cockroach in Icmeler I guess they must exist, as for mosquitos, never been a problem, although I did get bitten quite badly in Dalyan

Never seen a cockroach in Turkey, but mozzies really love me!, I always use either Off or Sin Kov and spray every bit of exposed skin in the evening, only ever get bitten if I forget to spray. Both products available in most small supermarkets, if you can't see them just ask for mozzie spray. (The spary also seems to help the itching if you do get bitten)

re the only cockroach we ever saw - at least we think that's what it was ( I didn't hang around to get a good view ha ha) flew towards the light on the balcony
well, you've never seen me move as fast in my lifte - even where free beer's involved
left OH to waft it away

the turkish lemon stuff seems to work for me for mozzies

FLEW!!! Didn't know the pesky things could fly , thank goodness I havn't seen one in the last 4 years in Icmeler either then, in that case.
Tenerife was heavilly populated by them, saw one run up the wall once, that was enough for me!

I've never seen any in Icmeler, but I dont look for them

Only time I came across them was in Bennidorm, the apartments we stayed in were crawling with them you could hear them running over the floor at nighttime

We did have a lizard in our room one year in Icmeler

ah but aren't lizards supposed to keep the creepy crawlies at by ??
was told that once by someone who used to work a lot in Saudi - same person who told me cockroaches could fly, so not sure if that's true ha ha

Bring on the Lizards if they can keep cockroaches at bay! (they're much cuter ) especially if they can catch them before they "take off"! scampering round the room is bad enough, but flying! Fanny, I still can't get over that bombshell!, However, going by this thread, cockroaches are few and far between in Icmeler, Phew! I've never seen one in 4 years .

Sorry to say but i have seen about 3 (unless it was the same one on diffrent nights) in a certain bar which im not going to name. needless to say i kept my feet on the chair for the whole night urgh! But havnt seen them anywhere els so your pretty safe.

i have been to turkey twice and havent seen any cockroaches (thats why i,ve been turkey more than once)
its only the females that fly
i would rather sleep in a snake pit than with cockroach in the room

The CockRoach is known for quickly finding a spot for its eggs and then flying away to confuse would-be predators.
Their eggs are encased in capsules called "oothecae," which the female deposits in what she deems to be a safe place.
The eggs, some two to four thousand of them, hatch 4-6 days later.
Use of a spray insecticide is not enough. The shells are very hardy.
You must remove them by hand and dispose of them.
Funny enough the German species is Ok
The Asian species is the one to look out for

never saw any creepies really, only black crawly things the shop keepers swept off there steps at night.....

but loved to listen to the noise coming from the trees by our apartment, very loud.....maybe crickets?

if we did find a creepy, then i would have to move it, hubby doesnt like them

My wife had always been bitten and really suffered until we took Avon skin so soft to spray on her.Last few years she has not had a problem. She sprays it allround the apt and on her legs arms when we go out at night.She now has a much better holiday.
We got ours off Ebay.

I can remember the sound of the crickets Karen , well that is what i think they are. it reminds me of the film on the tv where they are in the jungle and all you can here is the crickets.
