Hi Jan

Welcome to the forum you can book a fishing trip through ICR I have also seen some of the locals fishing in the canal and also off the new pier they tend to use raw chicken as bait cut into small bits and also bread
Hope this helps your son

Hi Jan.
Me and my son, my brother in law and nephew went on a fishing trip last year from the pier at the very end of the bay near the Mar Bas Hotel on the prom. My brother in law fished from the pier every morning we were there and got to know one of the locals who owned a fishing boat. He offered to take us out, provide all the bait and rods etc, and even some lunch. Can't remember what we paid but it was very cheap and one of our best days out. They even baited the hooks for us !!
Happy hols

I will be there in august, i do a lot of fishing and have caught some nice mullet in the past. the locals use bread but you cant have any aftershave or suncream on your hands because they know!

The main fish you catch are small perch like fish and a species of bream. there is a guy who runs a trip that is very good and all tackle and bait is around £8 for the day. he goes about 1/2 mile out of the harbour.

We was fishing last year and saw barracuda around the boat around 20lb in weight, time we changed our tackle they had long gone...im prepared this year though!

Eric, where do you go to see the guy who does the boat trips ? We're up for that. We also have got hold of a couple of small telescopic rods to try in the canal. I know about freelining bread for mullet but what tactics/baits are used for other species ?
I have a bad feeling that freelining bread with the associated groundbaiting for mullet will do little but provoke an attack from the duck "mafia" who inhabit the canal.
Oh, is there anywhere in Icmeler that sells hooks etc ?

The best thing would to be bring some hooks to nylon with you, around size 12. The hooks in turkey are not brilliant and thats being kind. The best bait is raw chicken which has been cut into chunks about 3/4 pea size then covered in salt to dry out (looks lovely out on the balcony and always cheers up the missus). I always fish the same there as in the UK, just like your fishing in a river- float, shot hook etc. cast as far as you can into the sea and you can catch some lovely fish.

Best time is between 6.30 and 7.30 am or anytime after 7pm when the beaches are clear. There is not a fat lot in the canals, a few tiddlers maybe. Im sure ICR do some fishing trips but i go with the boat called NEMO which goes out from along past the Bamboo, it can be booked at the bottom of the canal.

Any other questions please just ask.

Thanks Eric and archiebabe. That chicken sounds a bit smelly, I wonder what the hotels reaction would be. :D

actually it doesnt, if you cover with loads of salt it draws all the liquid and goes hard like jerky. doesnt smell at all!
