Has anyone had to pay excess at Dalaman for being overweight on there baggage,heard a story of almost everyone on a flight out of Dalaman being charged for being overweight even though some of them had checked before they went to the Airport and were well under weight.

we knew that we were 6 kg over weight coming home but did not get charged

Hi Geovil, I went in May, my hobby whilst waiting in the check in queue, is to see if anybody gets charged for overweight cases, sad I know, but what else is there to do? I didn't see anybody kicking off! and you can usually tell if somebody has been asked to pay excess baggage costs. We flew with onur air, 20kg allowance. A lot have reduced to 15kg, maybe some people have been caught out on that. I'd have something to say if I was asked to pay excess if it was within the guidelines! the scales at the airpot show what the case weighs so airlines surely can't charge if you're within the limit.

came back on sunday , was 4 pounds over weight and they charged us £16 , somebody in front of us was 2 1/2 pound over and they did'nt get charged ...

It pays to make good use of your hand luggage, we only had 15kg allowance in June this year and I used full advantage of the 5kg hand luggage, made a difference and we were spot on with one case, and slightly under with the other going out, 0.01kg over on the way home.

Excess baggage is being charged in every airport now.

When we came back Zante in May they were charging extra

Friends just back from Bennidorn on Saturday they were charges 28 euro.

So looks like we will just have to travel lighter or pay the price

I'm just glad they have not got round to weighing us yet

I just think the whole excess baggage charges are a complete disgrace.

It's just another way for these airlines to make MORE money from us innocent holidaymakers when they're already lumping charges on their ticket prices left, right and centre.

I was charged £6 for being 1.5kg over my 15kg restriction at Bristol last month and, whilst I was being told the reason for the extra charge was that more weight equals more fuel used, I remember looking at the queue behind me and thinking - without being rude - there are quite a few people here who look a little overweight (me included!) so what's the next step.....? Will we have to have to declare our height when we book our tickets and have to get on the scales ourselves at check-in... and then get charged per kilo we're overweight?

I don't get it. Because if every person on my flight went into the duty free shop after checking in, and bought 2 litres of spirits each, 400 fags, stocked up on designer fragrances and beauty products, exactly how much more weight would that person be carrying? How much more fuel would that use?

At this rate they'll be putting themselves out of business. With all the extra fuel charges, excess baggage charges, extra fuel taxes and goodness knows what else they'll dream up to charge us for next.... very few people will be able to afford to fly anywhere at all and they'll be pulling flights!

So on my next trip to Icmeler in September I'll be the one at Bristol Airport making use of the scales at an empty check-in desk - juggling stuff between hand baggage and hold baggage to avoid the excess weight charge!

Think I'm going to lie down now and think of Icmeler!

Well my case was overweight and the woman checking me in didnt say anything, it was something like 34.4 and your case isnt meant to be any heavier than 32 but I guess she wasnt bothered as she didnt say anything. Guess I was just lucky, in september when I went for a month I had to end up paying something like 6 or 7 pound as I was over my limit

i know i always end up worrying in the airport when all i want to be doing is getting excited for my holiday

I was travelling with ******* and they give you 20 each and I had my son with me, they dont allow a case any heavier than 32

The scalea at the airport might well show what the case weight is but it doesn't mean that the scales are correct. All scales can be altered.

I think i will be taking my own ones this year, like lots of other people are doing.

I thought that all airport scales had to be checked regularly by the goverment,to make sure that they are correct.

Weights and measures Dept do checks here in the UK


In the old Terminal, hubby found putting his foot under the scales made it lighter

People were charged at Dalaman in May this year, luckily we were just about right so were ok, although have been charged before last September and the year before too.

It roughly £6 a kilo over.

we returned on the 13th june, we were 6kg over, but our rep on the coach told us, that when you get to check in make sure you tell them that you hav,nt got any hand luggage, then they should allow you that of your luggage, it actually worked for us, the family in front got charged.

I am only going for a week this time so i am hoping i will be ok, i might pack lite this time as i always take too much and don't end up wearing half the stuff i take.

I will see what my friend says and ask her if she has any, if not i will get a set.

I don't want to be over my limit and get charged.

We checked in at Dalaman and was 4.5 kgs over but we remember to try the old trick. We have no money, just a credit card only, to make payment. So as normal, no payment was made, checked in, and carry on into departures.

Seems to work for us.
