Can anyone help please. Got a new mobile and was wondering if it would work over in Turkey. Its a Motorola KRZR K1 and I don't know if it has tri-band. Beginning to wonder if I should take my old mobile too as that worked last year. If anyone can help it would be really appreciated. :D

Thanks

Mandy

I was going to ask about networks when I was with 02 I had no problems, but when I changed to Orange my phone wouldn't work. Do I have to phone them up and arrange something beforehand? I'm on PAYG ??

I have PAYG orange, and mine worked fine.

Always best to phone your service provider before leaving though, just to be on the safe side, depends what tariff you are on. Mines is call abroad tariff.

I would call Orange first, just to be on the safe side. When we went in october, my 02 phone worked without any problems, but my daughter's PAYG Orange phone wouldn't work at all while we were there.

DON'T make the same mistake me and Hubby made last year

We'd been to Greece earlier in the year and got passport put onto his tariff to use the phone abroad, it said it'd cost 75p to connect then it would be free from his inclusive minutes there after.

We didn't use it much, as we bought these phone cards for €5 and would get 2hours worth of talk time to uk landlines.

Got home and got the bill and it was only a few pounds for all the connection fees we'd made on his mobile.

Went to Icmeler in September and used the phone every day ringing back home - I'd be on for over 20mins at a time to my Mom on our walk back to our apartments telling her how lovely it was in Icmeler - basically making the call worth the 75p connection fee as the mins after were free.......

WRONG !!!!!!

Hubby got his bill come through, it was over £200

He got on the phone to Vodafone to ask them what was going on and they said "oh passport doesn't work in Turkey", he explained that they sold it to him saying he'd be able to use it abroad and would only pay a 75p connection fee. They said yes that's right but not in Turkey !!!

Hubby was fuming, they wouldn't make a reduction or anything and he had to pay. As soon as his contract was up he didn't renew.

Needless to say neither of us will be using our phones to ring anyone - perhaps send the odd text but no way will we use it to make calls.

Can you buy phone cards out there or is it cheap to ring home from payphones out there ???

Thanks for the info Sue :D

I take it they're cards you put into the payphones ?? Or are they like the ones in Greece where you have a serial number on your card and have to punch that in first and it tells you how much credit you have left on the card then you dial your number ??

Thanks again :D
