i do understand your frustration geovil, and i doubt anyone takes any notice of the government warnings, but i work for the nhs, and over the last 2 years i have to say we have seen more cases of mouth cancer on the over 30's than ever before, all seem to have one thing in commen, they drink spirits,
and we have to employ police to stand at the doors on a friday and sat night at the front of A&E,
for me, its been tackled the wrong way.....

I didnt know the mouth cancer was linked to drinking alcohol. That is a bit scary.
I must confess to enjoying a tipple or 5 of vodka.

Hi Karen I do sympathise with you I worked in the hospitals 30 years ago when they were hospitals not business's there was no need for police on the doors and casualty was just that a casualty department not like today a war zone,it sickens me the way the health service workers are treated and I don't just mean by the public also by the government as to mouth cancer being caused by drink I have never heard of it but you have got to remember a lot of the drinks today were unheard of years ago look at Absinth supposed to be banned what happened.

i had never heard of it either, but the max fax ( facial) consultant had been doing a study for a few years, and there was a link between young men mainly drinking spirits , in large amounts i might add, and mouth cancer....
as i dont work in that bit anymore i dont know what else came about.....
i only have the odd drink at home, but on holiday i dont think about units, i just drink when i want.......
and its true, hospitals are turning into war zones on fri and sat nights.......well, where i work they do

I've just completed a temp assinment with the NHS, we were trying to promote the affects of binge drinking. Personally I think they had the wrong person for the job, coz I like a good drink jus as much as the next person.

That's sad to hear Richard.
I allways say though you can only educate people to the dangers, but the general public don't like people told what to do by the government etc, if we listened to every single bit of research we'd have to give up most types of food, and most of lifes little luxuries, because just about everything is bad for us apparently.

Too right I went for a job at a comprehensive school yesterday which was more like a prison camp then a school. Kids are shut in isolation looking at 3 walls literally! The room is called Think Tank. What does that achieve. Glad I didn't get the job, th enurses and doctors have something to put up with, my sister is a nurse and the stories are scary when they are alcohol related.

for me, the money should be spent in schools educating the children, not in newspaper adverts etc..
kids just take no notice unless, and i think its the teen binge drinking that needs the most help.....
