Icmeler markets

Hi, a group of us are going in july and most of the 'kids' (Adolescents) want to buy a whole host of new clothes and accessories.

Where is the market and how long does it take to get there? What do they sell there....

The main market runs on a Wednesday, and is at the top of the main road that goes through Icmeler. what can you get there....more like what can't you get there. Clothes, shoes, bags, other leather goods... the list goes on!!! Go quite early to beat the midday sun, and be prepared to haggle!!!

It is more or less opposite the PTT or Post Office and like Pooise says GO EARLY. Just remember the weight restrictions for the flight back.I often wondered how we ever made it into the air on our return flight.

Have to be honest here, you can get everything
you want in the underground market, it's open every day

I agree with duffaire and the underground markets are a lot calmer !!!!!!!!!! but I also enjoyed looking at all the fresh produce on the Wed market...this would not appeal to the youngsters though

You can get just about anything. I was abit suprised to see a man selling taser guns, cs spray, and a whole host of otherwise illegal weapons in this country.

if you go later on - around 16.00 it's cooler and there are better bargains to be had
mind you, the stuff on the underground or canal markets or even in the shops is better quality I reckon and you don't have anywhere near the hassle on the Weds market which can verge on aggressive [not to mention annoying]

We found the little stalls along the canal cheaper too Fanny.

I didn't like the market, too packed and too much shouting and they don't take NO for an answer.

The only thing we bought was 2 jumpers for hubby, they wanted £30 for them we said no £20 he said no so we walked off and he shouted ok £20 so we got them and also some fancy cusion covers for Mother inlaw think we got 5 for £5 and he chucked in a 6th for free

Much calmer along the canal and you can get a good idea wandering up and down how much each wants for what then work out whoes the cheapest and say someone else offered less further along for what you want

Even the shops and the underground markets are good too, just be prepaired to haggle and DON'T let them see into your purse or wallet at how much you've got on you, as soon as you open your purse their eyes are on you

Hi, the market is up at the back of Icmeler not far from the big Tansas Supermarket. If you walk from the beach up alongside the canal for about 10 mins you will be about there, just follow the crowds . We bought handbags (they will set fire to them with lighters to show you they are leather but of course they are not and quality is not the best) They sell a lot of designer T shirts five for a tenner!!! but watch the sizes they will bung anything into the bag if they think you arent looking. The best things we bought were lovely fake designer beach towels and a lovely embroidered tablecloth, a fraction of what you pay over here. The market is great fun, be prepared to haggle down to about half of what they are asking. All good fun!!!

We got the beach towels too, I spent the entire holiday trying to haggle anyone that sold them to 3 for £10 and none of them would budge on 2 for £10. So ended up getting them on the last day down the canal 2 for £10.

Washed them the weekend ready for June and they washed up lovely, they're so thick, fantastic quality - £5 each was a real bargain.

totally agree about the towels - ours are still going strong after loads of washes

Yep, they wouldnt budge from 2 for a tenner for us either although worth every penny for the quality, unfortunately one of mine blew off the washing line never to be seen again so am going to stock up again in July

A tip for keeping your towel from flying off your sunlounger (sorry none for washing lines ) - knicker elastic !!

We get about a yard of elastic (about half an inch - inch thick) for each end, just tie a tight knot in it to make a loop then stretch it over the end of the towel and the bed, ours don't budge no matter how much the wind blows.

I always take it with us, and the left over big piece comes in useful as a makeshift washing line
