Passport query

I would like some advice please. My 2 step-sons passports expire on 6/1/09. We fly to Dalaman on the 7/7/08 and return on 18/7/08. I am lead to believe that passports have to have more than 6 months to expiry dateate for entry or exit into Turkey. Can Anyone please advise me whether or not we need to renew before travelling? Thanks

Your passport needs to be valid for six months from the entry date into Turkey.
You seem to be 1 day over the 6 month period.

I would advise getting new passports than risking trying to exit Turkey on the original passport.

We had a similar problem last year. All you need to do is to renew passports early...... the passport agency will add the extra on, so it expires later in 10 years time....you don't lose anything.

that's handy to know Jivebunny
was getting a bit miffed at the possibility of losing out on 5 1/2 months for the 3 children's passports

You are allowed to renew it up to 7 months before and they will add the 7 months onto the new passport

Has jivebunnie mentions about visas, this is what happened to us in August
Always make sure your passports and visas are in date or it could be a costly mistake

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just arrived back and have just got to tell you about my scare in Dalaman Airport.

On arriving at Dalaman I had informed my good wife that we needed new visas because the ones we had got in late May were expired during our August visit,so Had inserted the required £10 notes in the 3 passports.
Being the wise person she is along with all the other members of the fairer sex, she decides that I know nothing and that she will ask the smiling visa control officer if the visa was still good,
he said "Yes" and smugly Ann and our little group then went through passport control having just saved £30.

Now on the way out of the country Passport control decided that our visa was out of date and informed security who took us into a small office were another smiling gentleman informed me that our visa was 6 days out of date.
Having checked his financial chart he decides that he could let us out of the country if we paid a fine of 453 YTL about £180.

After then having to have our passports photo copied and variouse forms filled we were allowed to leave Dalaman.
But not before giving me a dressing down saying that I should know better after visiting his country so many times and not being aware of my visa state ie:90 days.
Visions of Midnight Express went through my mind especially when this security guard said that I had beautifull eyes, gods honour thats what he said.

I was also informed that if they wanted to they could ban me from visiting Turkey for 5 years but would not push the issue (I think my eyes got us through that one)

I again have bragging rights in our house and I think in future Mrs Gene will listen to my words.

Well done ole blue eyes......you wont get away with that one again!

Seriously though, it's not funny when your paperwork is questioned.... I thought I was gonna have to stay in Kenya at one point, all because the travel agent had spelt my name slightly differently on the airport paperwork. I had no control over that, and I can tell you I was very nervous to say the least.
On the other hand, I wouldn't have minded if I'd had to stay in Icmeler
