what is the safest way to keep your money..i am taking £2,000 spending money..which is a lot to carry with me. for 2 weeks..where would you recommend
to leave the money,when i go out as i do not want to carry all of it with me.just in case i lose it all....

i dont know if the apartment i am staying at the grand aquarium has a safety box or not

well hopefully there will be saftey deposit boxes
its alot of cash to be traveling with
i know travels cheques are a bit expensive but at least you have peace of mind

it is a lot of money to carry m8..that is why i am worried...

i will be doing a lot of shopping and go on spending spree

Is it not worth leaving th emoney in the bank and using the cashpoints over there? There are tons of cash points now and I know you get charged for taking it out over there as you do with some over here but its so much safer than carrying all that round with you... cash points are really straight forward andeasy to use

I'd be very surprised if you never had a safety deposit box where you are staying. We've always took cash apart from earlier this year when we took travellers cheques. I know you get 'piece of mind' with the cheques but me been lazy found it a pain having to take ID and sign each cheque - I know, it's so lazy isn't it !!!!! We also got a better deal when changing sterling.. The only reason I took the cheques was because I got a bit dubious about taking cash after reading some reports on the forum about thefts etc..

Grand Aquarium definately has safe deposit, stayed there 3 times. It used to be in the wardrobe, bottom shelf nearest the floor, so was a bit of a problem to get in to, but hey, it works!!

I don't think travellers cheques cost a lot of money as we got ours this year at the Nat West where we bank and were not charged any comission when we got them ,We brought £200 worth back and paid them straight into our account with no charges there either.
We never have a problem changing them in Icmeler but we always go to the same supermarket to change them each year.
I would never take loads of cash, I would rather have peace of mind

Forgot to say that after the first time of cashing a cheque when you have to take your passport no, you don't have to take it again if you go to the same supermarket, just write your passport no on the back.

why not try Nationwide flexaccount there is no charge on withdralls & you get bank rate i have used mine in Porugal & spain with no problem spain 2.40= £ i got 1.48 = £ using card & no charge i will be using it in Icmeler next year .

I wouldn't dream of going anywhere without my travellers cheques - so much safer. Usually commision on buying t.chqs is 1%, so it's not going to break the bank.

Most banks will charge for using the ATM's except the Nationwide, but lets face it you don't get something for nothing these days.

We always take about £100 in lira, £100 in sterling and the rest in travellers chqs.

Just take your passport as ID the first time and after that there is no problem.


Saves stashing all the cash under the mattress!

everybody these days has locks on there suitcase, buy an extra strong one and put your money tickets passports ect in a compartment in your suitcase, cant imagine staff steeling your suitcase, we have done this 4 years now and it saves money on safety deposit boxes. i have also read reports that people have lost money from them anyway

Oh no I would still put my valuables in a safety deposit box, dont like the iede of money in my suitcase, these can be carried out of the room cant they???????

For the first time ever we didn't take cash with us to Turkey this year - I used the Nationwide Flexaccount card. I was a bit dubious at first but had no problem at all and when I got home checked my account and found it all OK, so I will be using this method in future.

Ooohh what if your card gets retained in the ATM? I wouldnt use this as my only method to obtain my hard saved spending money! I work in a Bank and know only too well how many cards get retained in these. JMHO

Good thinking Tania, will always remember to take alternative cards too!

Always use the safe's at the accommodation, also means if it goes missing from here more likely to be insured this way, if you then get money stolen from your suitcase no doubt will try to tell you that you ain't covered.

yes but who will carry the suitcase out, a member of staff, and they have accsess to your safety deposit box anyway, heard a few tales of money go missing from them anyway, never heard of anyone losing there case outa there room, its down to the individual just my prefference

also your money is pretty much covered for everything if you get decent insurance, any theft of the beach out of your bag ect

i didnt know the staff could get access to safety deposit box

i thought we pick our own numbers on them.
