Is it just me or is £70 outrageous for a pair of fake Victoria Beckham jeans? The Metrople wanted this plus £12 for a T shirt even though I was going to buy 6 of them. I've been shopping in Turkey for many years but on this occassion I was left speechless. I Opted for a wee DVB skirt down the street for a tenner. His argument that they were £300 at home sort of missed the point. I had been ready to pay £20/£25 for jeans and maybe £7 each for the Tshirts, am I just a skinflint?

Had he convinced me that his stock is a bit better quality than other places I may have paid more ------- but £70?

I have actually been out with people from London and they have paid that without arguing for designer jeans saying that they are far more than that where they live.

I suppose that the shop keepers have now realised that some people will actually pay that stupid price for a pair of fake keks

I have no problem paying that at home, at least if the zip breaks you can take them back!

I am shocked that the Metropole staff were so abrupt with you. I've always known Tahir and his brother to be very accommodating and fair. I know he is careful with his stock but to be honest, I don't think it's any better than other shops selling the same quality. My sons still have clothes bought from him and Savas (next to the Majestic Boys) from 5years ago that haven't shrunk - most of the stuff from the markets (cheap 5 for £10) would only fit a 3year old now!

I don't know about prices but it seems that Turkey is picking up on the fact that shop shop shop is the by-word for most tourists.

I have no complaints about the service and we were allowed to browse without much hassle, his selling techniques were a little more subtle ie offering seats and taking a long time to fold items etc so as you started to look again.

It was just the ridiculous prices - it's silly because we came home with a good few hundred quid which we had intended to spend.

We have bought jeans from here last year and the year before and never paid more than £25, I bought Victoria Beckham jeans from them last and and managed to persuade him to throw in a belt I had seen the year before but decided not to buy. I paid £25 for the Victoria Beckham jeans.

The Metropol have always had a high standard, but I agree, the price is a bit steep, when the origins are dubious.
However, my daughter paid the same price in a boutique type shop for 2 pair of jeans, but did hem them and replace them when a few 'stones' fell off!!!!!
I think you should only buy them if they are really something special that you dont see in your own town. After all we can buy plain jeans here for £3 from Tesco's.

hi i have just come back last night if you want VB jeans go to the green house shop by the bonjour if you buy more than one you can get them down to £20 i got 6 pair

i agree we tried to buy a sweatshirt for my daughter in the metropole and he tried to charge us £25 sayyind best quality he wouldnt even haggle a bit we walked to another shop that we brought stuff in last year and got the same sweatshirt and quality for £12 we told him this when we walked past because he didnt believe us and got snotty when we showed him the sweatshirt same as the one he wanted to sell us for double so in future years he will not get my custom

Hi Ya. I have visited Icmeler for 6 years now and it really does seem like some shop keepers are trying to rip us off. At one time you could get some really good bargins but not now. The likes of Asda, Sainsbury's, Matalan etc have better quality clothes here for some times cheaper prices. I had same problem when trying to buy a sweat shirt for my mum as a pressie. The shopkeeper tried first off to get £50 out of me, when I challenged him very politly and nicely he said that some english people expected rediculous prices. When I explained that I didn't and would pay a fair price he quickly changed his attitude. But sorry to late for me the damage was done, he in my eyes had already tried to rip me off. This is not all shopkeepers, just some are a little bit silly. But I do think if you are fair with them, they will be fair with you. I still stand by Sainsbury's though, good quality and good prices, even though it is part of your hols to shop, just be aware of those that try to rip you off.

When I was in Icmeler in June I bought 6 small hand painted bowls at the underground market for £10. My future daughter in law admired them and said they'd make a lovely housewarming gift (hint hint methinks!) so I decided to buy them for her in August. The shopkeeper said it was £10 for 5, and it would be £13 for 6, I told him he sold me 6 for £10 in June, he just shrugged and said OK. Although I did get 6 for £10 I'll be very wary of buying there again.

There appears to be a few things going on, first is a falling number of tourists as compared to the bumper years, you also have to factor in the Primark effect, why bother buying clothes in Turkey when you can get far better at home for a cheaper price, now if they stopped making silly fakes and did what the big chains do, and copy cat walk fashions they would sell a lot more, I for one don’t want to walk around with labels stuck on me. I do feel sorry with many of the shop keepers, it’s a short season for them , and the cost of living is not as cheap as many believe.

you can get a pair of the VB jeans for 25 pound my sister in law did from the shop next door to the dream three bells

Believe it or not Robert it has been very busy most of the season with just mid June and early July that was pretty quiet.

All Turkish people would say they haven't been busy even if they were full 5 out of 7 nights and with all the new places opening it keeps people away from the main town centre.

I don't do shoping anymore.I spend my time around the pool or at night chilling out.Life's too short to go shopping.

I don't go the market, altho the little Turnunc one is ok for shopping, I just use the shops on the canal for a nosey for buying my T Towels and beach towels

I was also shocked with the metropol this year. We went last year because my fiance knew one of the owners wife. He works with her in england so we went to see her whilst in turkey. We got a really good deal from her and her husband and the t-shirts were really good quality.

This year we went back and my fiance's work colleagues are now both living in england and so it's one of the brothers that is running the metropol this year. We went to say hi as he knew that we knew his brother and he obviously thought that he'd got a guarenteed sale just because we knew his brother because we went into the shop to have a look around and pick some t-shirts out he started bagging them up without giving us a price. When we got a price it was something ridiculous and he wasn't even willing to haggle so we told him that we didn't want his t-shirts and that we'd get his brother to bring them home with him when he comes back from his holiday.

Metropole prices had gone up a lot this year. Would recommend the Greenhouse - the staff in there are lovely & very helpful. You are not hassled at all, prices are good & they do alterations.
