Our Icmeler holiday...

Postby diamondgal » 30 Jul 2007 11:09

Well I have been back nearly a week and have just got round to writing about our hols...!

What can I say about Icmeler apart from that it was perfect. From the apartments, to the resort, to the people, food, drink, and most of all the company of my gorgeous other half! I have not got a bad word to say about it.

We arrived at the airport at 13.35 to the beautiful blistering heat of Dalaman, only to find out that our taxi had not turned up - I won't say who it was, but it wasn't ICR!! Bit of a panic at how do we get to Icmeler, as it was our first time, but we met a couple that were on our plane and luckily enough (for us!) she had not printed off their transfer information, so didn't have a clue who it was with, so they were jumping into a taxi. We jumped in with them - best of both worlds! Worked out cheaper.

None of them, including my other half had been to Turkey before, so I started by saying how lovely the Turkish people were..... only for 10 mins into the journey the taxi driver stopped at a shop. We started cursing him saying we just want to get going...... only to be made to feel doubley guilty when he returned with bottles of water for us all!!!

Once we got to Icmeler and got settled into our apartments, we went for a wander. Only to get confused as to where everything was. Where was the canal in relation to the square, to the beach etc.... just normal find out where you are for the first few days feelings! Soon worked it all out though. We were suprised at how big Icmeler actually was. There are many streets with bars and restourants on - it would take you a full summer to try every single one of them...... has anyone done it?!!

The first few nights were a bit of a blur from vodkas in the hotel to the efes and cocktails! The second night was especially rememberable (for me at least) when t'other half decides to have a few too many tequilas and shows me his dinner again at 6.30am!! We had only got to bed at 5am! I wouldn't mind if it hadn't been mexican chicken!!

Anway the holiday continues as normal with lots of lovely meals. Our favourites were Venice, Titanic, Lighthouse, Dreamboys and Golden Moon. We also ate at Chef, Harry's, Majestic, Chinese on corner next to canal, Captain Bullshit, all of which were good. Mario's had a beautiful view of the bay and nice food. We did go to The Loveboat, but found it to be very impersonal and clinical. It was nice food, but we found that we had better elsewhere.

The bars were great, from those that provided entertainment to the ones where you can sit down and chat with the staff. Our favourites were Sports Inn and Champagne. We did try Wonder Boys, Oscars, 3 (4) Bells, Friends, and many others that I can't even remember the names of! We loved the Mitos chill out bar - with big massive cushions. I also liked the Geordie bar with it's karaoke. My other half is a mackem, so I loved it when all the staff jumped on him for a Toon picture!!

We didn't do any trips or anything, as we were just there for a do nothing holiday away from work! Other half had not had a hol for 4 years! We just enjoyed lazing by the pool and reading and chilling. We will do more trips and sighteeing next time we go.

Anyway enough of my reminiscing.... it is making me sad!

Hope everyone has a good time when you go... which is a more or less definite!

Excellent review, and you did try many bars and restaurants. There are too many to attempt on your hols but I guess we can all give it a go.

Just wish my holiday would come quicker now

Lovely review,
Enjoyed reading of your exploits and adventures in Icmeler for the first time.
The exciting part of any first time is exploring, even after one or two visits you will still find streets and allys you have never been down.
You did try a lot of Bars so credit to your constitution

Good report, glad you liked it, it tends get people like that, I have not met many people who do not like the place

We like to try all the different restaurants and bars, there are so many to chose from, that it would be a shame to stick to the same place.

That was great reading on your 1st holiday, but I guess by your post not the last trip to Icmeler. One stage, thought I was there with you walking around the village. Mitos bar is our favorite bar, just brilliant

Take care
