Sandy i am not sure i know the airport is closed tonight and flights are being diverted to Edinburgh, although the forecourt at Edinburgh is closed the airport is still open but you are not getting passed the Hilton hotel, you have to take the airport shuttle bus from there.

Seemingly Blackpool airport has been closed off too. Edinburgh & Newcastle on high security.

Maybe by monday Glasgow will have re opened, best to keep watching TV or checking BAA Airport website for up to date info.

My family are also flying out on monday.

Well right now we should be about to land at Dalaman Airport. We were all excited, when the mini bus came for us at 2.45pm saturday to take us to Glasgow Airport. We were not flying till 8.45pm, but as there is roadworks and traffic is a nightmare around the airport, we decided to leave early. We got to the slip road for the airport without any trouble as the driver went through the Clyde Tunnel and we were just about to come off the motorway when the police shut the road. There was about 5 unmarked police cars whizzing past us with lights flashing and a helicopter flying above the airport. We knew something had happened, but though it was an accident. The driver continued to Paisley and turned round trying to gain access to the airport from the other direction. Again the police wouldn't let us through. By this time we realised something had happened at the airport. We phoned home and found out from the teletext that a car had driven into the airport and was on fire. That was all we knew at this stage and didn't think too much of it. We drove to the nearest restaurant and tried to find out more information. By this time we knew more and the situation seemed to be getting worse. Our driver had to leave us at the restaurant as he had another hire and we waited for information. Eventually, news24 gave a hotline number and surprize it was not recognised? We sat in the restaurant and more and more passengers turned up not knowing what to do. Eventually, some decided to go home, but there was others like us who had no transport to get home. At 8.00pm, our driver phoned me to say he was in Glasgow City Centre and would come to find out what was happening. We all waited until the police report incase the airport was going to reopen in the next few hours. Unfortunately, all indications were that this was not going to happen, so we came home. Now we don't know when the airport is opening or even if our driver can take us back, and I am scared to go to sleep incase it opens during the night and we miss our flight. I know that this is highly unlikely as the airport won't probably open till late tomorrow morning, but I don't want to take a chance. So if you are in Icmeler this week, I will be the one walking around like a zombie. Although there has been little information for passengers, I still feel that the police and the emergency services are doing a brilliant job under very difficult circumstances. I suppose they are in the dark as much as the passengers about when the airport will reopen. We are very thankfull that there was no casualties except the person with leg injuries, as it could have been a disaster. We are also grateful that we were not 5 minutes earlier as we always go in the first doors at arrivals to look at the screens to find out where our check in is and we might have been standing there when the car came through. I think that would have scared the living daylights out of us and we may well have decided not to go on holiday. Sorry for the lenght of this!

Flights

Postby Nino » 01 Jul 2007 00:10

I have noticed from Dalaman Airport site, that there are flights from Glasgow are due to arrive albeit late, i.e. Onur Air and Freebird - not sure if this is correct but that is what Dalaman states. Please see this website:

Well an update on our situation. After a lot of phoning around this morning to Glasgow Airport and to Turkey, we were told by Glasgow that our flight was leaving at 4pm and to get to the airport, (this was 10.30am). We phoned our minibus driver who kindly took us in again. The road otside the airport was a nightmare and after waiting for 3/4 of an hour we were only at the sliproad roundabout. Everyone was getting out of the cars/vans and dragging their suitcases into the airport, so we though we would do this too. Once into the beginning of the airport, we were told to join the queue - well it went on for miles and miles. We finally reached the end of the queue and joined it. I decided to phone the airport again for an update and was told to come to the front of the queue as our flight was checking in (this was 1pm). We did this and all the passengers on the Turkey flights were let through. The queue was through the car park, back outside and then into terminal 2. We stood for about 2 hours, but didn't care as we were going to get our flight - or so we thought!!!! When it was our turn to check in, we were told that our flight had been cancelled and to wait at the side. This caused alot of passengers to crack up. We duly stood to the side and waited and waited. Eventually we were told that there was no way we would be flying today andthat there had been confusion with the Turkey flights and we should not have been told to come back. Our name and contact number was taken by an Onur Air rep and told xomeone would phone us monday, but it would probably be tuesday before we fly and they might have to farm us out to other airports!! Well we are not amused, we know that it is not the airpot/airlines fault, but the lack of information has been deplorable. We were told to go home - great we were stranded at the airport with no way home as our minibus driver was now stuck at Edinburgh. Eventually my brother in law kindly offered to come for us, but as the roads are so bad into Glasgow, it took him 2 hours to make a 45min journey. We are now home, tired, crabbit and hungry, just waiting on our pizza coming. If and when we do get a flight, then our driver may not be able to get us back to Glasgow - oh the joys, but I am optomistic and will worry about that at the time. We will get there somehow, even if we have to walk as we don't want to miss anymore of our holidays. PS when we were walking up and down the queue at the airport, we kept getting calls that we were on the tv, we were the ones looking away from the cameras!

An update on our situation. We have finally been contacted about our cancelled flight from saturday night and we are now flying tomorrow night from Edinburgh. Hurayyyyyyyy. Now we have to go and buy food and milk for another day as there is nothing in this house. We are soooooo relieved that the holiday has not been cancelled as we have waited a year for this one. Anyone going to Icmeler we will see you there and as I dont drink, yous can have my share (although the events of the past few days have almost driven me to drink!) Thank you all for your kind words and support. Jean, John & family

Glad your finally getting sorted Jejo.

Edinburgh is not too bad under the circumstances, all my family flew out from there this morning with just a 35 minute delay.

Have a FAB holiday when you get there and we'll hear all about it when you get back!
