Mandalin Hotel

Anyone got any recent views on this hotel. Reviews look good but would be interested in anything up to date.

Cheers,

Jim

Hi Jim,
I've never stayed here but it looks nice from the outside and it is very central.
We have had a few evening meals and their English breakfast which has been very enjoyable.

I'm also interested to hear about the Mandalin Hotel as I'm staying there in August.

I was also wondering if the rooms have a fridge or somewhere cool to keep a bottle of voddy?

Thanks guys, that's positive enough for me. I have searched a lot and not yet come up with anything bad so I've confirmed my booking with ICR.

Thanks to everyone too!
I actually booked on someone's recommendation - before even looking at their website! The hotel looks lovely, sounds great and the location couldn't be better!

Can anyone confirm whether the rooms have a fridge or decent sized mini bar - somewhere for me to store a bottle of vodka for an early evening drink or three whilst sitting on the balcony watching the world go by? aaaaahhhhhh can't wait!

Cheers

don't worry your vodka will be nice and cold, as all rooms have a fridge
the down side is you will have to drink a few efes to make room.
never mind.

We were robbed 2 weeks ago from the Mandalin

Postby rachel06 » 01 Jul 2007 15:06

My report of the Mandalin Hotel – Don’t stay there if you want to be safe whilst you’re on Holiday!!

We’ve just got back from a 2 week holiday to Icmeler and on the 3rd night that we were there whilst staying at the Mandalin we were robbed. There was me & my Fiance, my parent’s, my grandparents, and my Fiance’s grandparents and to save money we had one safe between the 8 of us.

Someone entered my parent’s room while they were asleep and took my mums handbag, my dads bag, a camcorder and other important valuables. We found out that they had entered through the room door with the spare key from behind the reception. In my dad’s bag was our safe key and the person who robbed us used that and the master key which was taken from behind the unattended reception desk to enable him to get into the safe. In the safe was just under £2000 which was almost all of our spending money, passports, bank cards, driving licenses and flight tickets, all of this was taken.

Later that morning my mum got a phone call from the bank to say that most of the cards that were stolen had been found in Marmaris at the Club Green Nature Hotel. On the way to the police station to make the crime reports we called at the hotel in Marmaris and met the person who’d cancelled all the cards for us. He was an English guy and had seen the hotel security guard at the hotel in Marmaris with purses and noticed that there were banks cards in them and so he’d phoned all of the banks in England to cancel the cards for us.

After talking to people in the resort we’ve worked out that what had happened was that a Turkish man and woman had booked in the hotel for one night on the Sunday (we remember seeing them around the swimming pool and thinking what an odd couple they made) then whilst my parent’s were asleep in bed he goes down to the unattended reception desk, whilst his partner is chatting up the security guard outside to keep him distracted, takes the spare room key which is left in a draw behind reception (the draw isn’t even locked so anyone could help themselves to the keys!!) He then goes up to my parent’s bedroom with the key and lets him self in. We then think that the man sprayed the bedroom with some kind of drug to make sure that my parent’s would stay asleep whilst he’s in there getting the things that he wants and he also gets the safe key which was in my dad’s bag. The burgler had to go right up next to my dad’s head to get his wedding ring and expensive watch. He then left the room closing the door behind him and went down to reception to open our safe with the two keys taking everything. Everybody including the police suspected the Turkish couple must have been tipped off by someone in the hotel. We were asked to be moved as we didn’t feel safe there and had two sleepless nights even though we had the wardrobe behind the door.

The Hotel manager was trying to say that we had made it up and that it wasn’t their fault or that we had planned it. The police didn’t seem bothered either. We were disgusted and it ruined our holiday.

Good luck with your stay and hope you have a good time but just be wary especially about your room and safe.

I know how this feels, the same kind of thing happened to us in S. of France a few years ago. We had everything stolen, french police weren't interested and our holiday insurance company refused to pay out.. GITS!! I can only assume yours was a one off as I've not heard of this before in Icmeler. I feel so very sorry for you because you save hard for your holiday and to have that happen is terrible.
