weight allowance

Postby denisthefish » 31 May 2007 13:37

look its up to you,but it might pay you to stick to the correct weight allowance, normaly 20 kilos suit case & 5 kilos hand luggage,if you have no hand luggage you cannot put the five kilos in your suit case, making 25 kilos, this was made quite clear to us only last week, people who are overweight,(luggage i mean ) will be charged.

Last week at Dalaman airport if people were over the normal 20kg allowance they were being charged £3 per kg for the extra weight.

this always confuses me...can you have 20 kilo in suitcase plus 5 kilo hand or just 20 kilo total.ladies can take a handbag which isnt weighed long as it is a handbag as well cant they?

mad-mags is correct we are just going to have to get used to keeping to the correct weight.(I can remember a few years ago when we returned from icmeler with those camel type holdalls full of t-shirts shoes and gawd knows what else, you still can bring this stuff back but be prepared to pay for it.)

it took us over an hour to go through check in at dalaman.check in staff have been told to be extra harsh on over weight baggage, and lots of people were arguing over charges.hand luggage was also weighed.next time we will go with empty suitcases.

We were charged last year for being over our weight limit at £7 a kilo! However for the stuff we brought back (including xmas pressies) was worth it. Luckily though last week we were over (not by much) but as they were trying to get us all through check-in we weren't charged but we were prepared for it if it had happened. So I reckon if you at least keep a few pounds just incase you are charged for all those bargains you decide to bring home :D

baggage

Postby sharnig » 31 May 2007 22:30

We don't get a problem with this. We go with almost empty cases and buy what we need when we're there. Chuck all the suntan cream and shampoos away before we leave, you wouldn't believe how many T shirts I've got. :D

Karent if your allowance is 20 kilos then the hand baggage is separate. This year we have found that a lot of airlines are doing 15 kgs as standard in hold and if you want 20kgs you have to pay extra..in advance.Hand baggage is a seperate issue and depends on airline. No wonder we are all confused!I had mega rows at gatwick last year asking why they could not put up definitive lists of what was allowed/not in hand baggage before queues started.I know it must be a stressfull job but wonder if they are paid to be rude sometimes!
