we go to icmeler every may and the new terminal was meant to be ready for last year, i was just wondering if it has been finished for this year and what it is like, has it changed much

Oh gawd, you have just remimded me of the new Dalaman Airport, I hated it last year, it looked half finished, loose wires around, basins hanging off in the loo's, the terminal we went from was downstairs in darkness, them stupid escalators that caused accidents.

There were plus points to it, I hope it is finished this year

Great news.....Dalaman Airport is huge but really lovely. Found it very clean and efficient. Didn't feel like we were in a cattle market at all. The shops were gorgeous, spacious and everyone was so friendly.

Still didnt get a smile from the guys checking our passports and taking the tenners off us

We travelled home on the first day of it opening. It was a nightmare, staff were not trained properly, well the guy who was checking in us was clueless. We had a private transfer and arrived in plenty time, but because he took so long, we didnt get seats together with my elderly parents.

We didnt even have time to go to the toilet never mind the shops before we boarded the plane!

We travelled through it in August last year and, after years of the old one, it was great!
Let's remember, it's an airport, not a holiday resort!
Oh, and while I remember, there's a big cheap duty free shop next to the baggage collection carousel.

I went through Dalaman last October and the new airport is a huge improvement on the old airport. The new duty free shops in particular were plentiful and well laid out

As a word of warning beware of the escalators there. They seem to sometimes switch on and off themselves. I think there are sensors on them and it caused some confusion last year and a few people took a tumble.

We travelled home through the new terminal last August and have to say it was brilliant, if not a little warm!!
My daughter was taken ill in the airport and the staff could not have been more helpful, within minutes we had a doctor and she was whisked off. They looked after us all wonderfully and the checkin staff were great locating our bags (which had already been checked in) just in case we needed to be offloaded.
Thankfully they held the plane for a couple of minutes which meant we could get home without having to transfer to another flight.
All in all a better experience than the old terminal!!
Hopefully the couple of trips we have planned this year will be less eventful!!

Dalaman airport is much better now that's for sure - wonder if they've finished the ceiling and the pillars... it resembled the inside of a multi storey car park last summer I thought! Still pricey though!

Pauline - I managed to get a smile from one of the passport chappies - when I handed over my passport he smiled and said "welcome back" - made my day!!!

We went last June/July the arrival section was just the same but the departure section was great. Loved the new food court & the duty free shop was great . Got lost trying to find the departure terminal as some signs were not up yet . The layout was lovely .

Did hear last year of a few problem with the new terminal, but glad to hear it's past it's teething problems! Lets face it, anything would be an improvement on what was there originally

We went through it last September and found it great. I don't think it was quite finished though as pipes and air ducts etc were showing on the ceilings, and it had a very grey look to it. Or maybe it's meant to look like that.

Once you have gone through passport control (on the way back) you will find a lot more places to eat eg KFC (which was lovely). Also, it's more comfortable in the way seating. The chairs in the old airport were metal and really hard on the butt - these are a lot better, and plenty of them.

I think the unfinished look with everything exposed is a deliberate design feature like a lot of new buildings these days!

We used the new airport for the first time in Septembe last year. I remember the check-in staff being very strict with the weight of luggage and lots of people were being charged for being over the weight limit, luckily the weighing scales on our check-in were not working so everyone in our queue managed to slip through with no problem

I have heard of a few people complaining about being charged extra for their luggage allowance at Dalaman.

Someone got charged extra for their case even though it was lighter coming back than when they went over.
How can this be happening

The strict charching for over weight luggage is by the airline, not the airport. The staff there only follow the airline's instructions.
We were overweight on our hand luggage, but they were fine when I showed them that it was food and drink for the airport.

All airlines seem to be being alot stricter with luggage weight this year.
The main reason for the excess baggage charge as explained to me was that the fuel that is needed for the flight journey is calculated on a weight capacity, Obviously the heavier the load that the plane is carrying the more fuel consumption is used.
I suppose as things are financially tighter for all airflight companies nowadays and more controlled, they now charge and are alot more stricter because it was too much of a loss for the airline companies to continue turning a blind eye. Hence more fuel was needed for the flights, so more control on weight limits., which results in a charge per kilo.

can you tell me if the weight allowance is for per case or per person? The reason I am asking is there are three of us going but I am hoping to only take two cases. Will I be able to squeeze three peoples weight allowance into two cases or will I need to have three cases?

Would be grateful for anyones feedback on this subject.

each of you are aloud 20kgs, so 30 in each case is fine but they may send you to put it through the heavy bags conveyer at the end of the checkin area
