Icmeler Online Holiday Forum & Reviews - Turkey

Just wondering if the old town will be the same in say twenty years time, its certainly changed in the centre over the last ten years.
It seems to me that there are a lot of elderly turkish people living in the old town, who are living on land that is potentially worth a lot of money.
However this is the land where they were born and the place they will see out there days.
But what about the next generation ?, will they sell the land for development and make there fortune ?.
What a shame this would be, as its always nice to see the other side of life.
we stayed in the old town last year and it was lovely to get your bread fresh out of the oven every morning, your eggs as they dropped and your fresh veg picked from the garden of a local.
What a shame it would be if this all changed and in its place were hotels and supermarkets.

I think that if and when the old village disappears and it becomes new and modern, Icmeler will no longer be the same for me. You get the best of both worlds at present in Icmeler and you don't have to travel far from one to the other, just stroll along. Its so peaceful there in the old village and there's nowhere quite like it!

i said the same thing over a year ago, icmeler gradually turning into marmaris, pity, kendo

Of course it DEFINITELY will but when it does then unless I live to be in my late pension days I wont see it so........hey what the hell we brought our kids there and hopefully they will keep the place going and in 30 years time they will be saying the same thing

I have been holidaying in Icmeler for a few years now,and in that time I have seen many changes in and around the area of the old village.
The village and the surrounding counrtyside is still peacefull and tranquil in the early morning and I am sure will stay like this for a few more years.
This land were local villagers have earned a living from is now worth a lot of money to developers.
Owners of the land must be tempted to sell.

we have been going to icmeler for a few years now, and we have stayed in the old village a few times.for relaxation and friendliness you can,t beat it.it has a different feel compared to the center more turkish somehow.the scenery is lovely to wake up to, and to walk down to the bakers of a morning is just bliss.this year i am going to learn the gin rummy domino game the local men play in the cafe,s.i can have a couple of hours tuition every night when the clever one puts the glad rags on.
