The Travellers Rest

Postby Zog » 23 May 2005 18:15

Got to put a good word in for this place, we didnt find it till the day before we left but we had two great meals there. The restaurant is owned by an english lass, Christine and her husband, daily specials, and reasonably priced. We had 2 soups, a braised steak, a steak and kidney pie (scrummy) chicken nuggets and chips for the bairn, 2 strawberry cheesecakes (scrummier) 2 cokes and a pint of efes, all for 55 ytl or £21-40 Give it a go you wont regret it, its up a side street opposote the Icmeler Murdunu Chicken. :D

Hi Zog, Just got back ...

I'm with you on this one - I have to visit Christines place for the cheese and onion flan - its ace - good value for money!! At lunchtime, the cheese and beetroot sandwiches are also scrummy!

Havent forgotten your offer of the Wigan stuff - I'll PM you later in the week.

We went there in June, only by accident as it happens. We were trying to find Jan and Dave, known the pair of them for a while. Dave used to work at the Two Sisters, then spent some time working in the chippy around the corner. Jan worked at one point at the Baron. Both of them in the past used to own Rockafellas, which eventually became something else. We eventually tracked them down to this place. Jan works the till and Dave is managing the appartments attached to the Travellers Rest. Anyway as someone has already said the place is owned by an English woman and the food is English, good value and also very wholesome.

Sorry no we didn't, Dave was going to show us both around, then something came up and he had to go. Looked good from the pool area though.

We have just returned from Icmeler after 1 month there.I must say the best restaurant is The Holiday restaurant. The food is excellent and the welcome you get from the owner pancakeman Mehmet is superb. It was that good, we ate there at least 23 evenings out of the 28 we were there. Also Mehmet has just married an English lass from Rochdale who will also welcome you.Would recomment this place to anyone. :D

Just read in another thread that perhaps Jan and Dave dont work at the Travellers Rest anymore. Does anyone out there know for sure they have left the Travellers and if so where are they now?

I know a Jan and Dave. I wonder if its the same couple. He has grey hair in his 50's. They used to be at the Baron last year. So if its the same couple, they are now managing at Captain Silver apartments. Hope this helps you

Hi Sandy, Jan did work at the Baron but only for a short time in 2003. She was there when Ahmed from Deniz Kapesi was the Manager. Dave at that time was at the Two Sisters working as a barman then went around the corner working in the chippy. Maybe we are not talking about the same couple. A few years back they ran Rockafellas before it became Wonderboys.

Sandy, I think we are talking about 2 different people. The Baron had an English couple running it after Ahmed left in 2003 and I think you are talking about them. The Dave I know doesn't wear glasses and was certainly not in his 50's and while the Jan we know worked at the Baron, she didn't work behind the bar, Dave was still at the Two Sisters working the bar.

Dave ( with the glasses and from Baron) is back at the Captain Silver Apartment. Dave and Jan ( Rockafellas/ 2 sisters/ Chippy) were at the traveller rest but are no longer. Met up with them last week - Dave had his appendics out 3 weeks ago. They were talking about coming back to the UK for a while and then going back out to Turkey.
