As far as I am led to believe, this is still a proposed tax and has not been officially confirmed yet. I'm sure more information will be provided if and when that becomes the case. The proposals are for a sliding scale of charges per person, per night - depending on the class of accommodation - and range from 6TL for one and two star hotels, hostels etc, up to 18TL for five-star hotels. There would be no charge for children under 12.

Is Turkey deliberately trying to price themselves out of the holiday market with this new room tax and the increase in Visa prices?

They've now proposed a change to this - so instead of a fixed rate fee, the room tax would be 1% of the room cost. Whatever people may think about this, it's something which many other countries have charged for years, but it's often hidden within the overall accommodation cost, so people often don't notice it unless they read the small print.

Swwogglehound, absolutely not, people will always go to Turkey time and again, and i am one of those people. One of the many benefits is the fact it is not in the God awful Euro zone, so money tends to go further. And 1% is a nominal charge. If your room for your stay is, say, £500, then it only a fiver.

I don't think you will be asked to pay this at check - in as most hotels in Icmeler are agency based. It will be included in the price you already paid. BUT I will not be surprised if you are asked to pay this amount on top by some particular places.. best check with your agent and hotel if you booked direct. No such taxes are applicable at ICR Sun Village Apartments... not for bookings or what you spend on premises.
