How did "You Find" Icmeler

Postby redrhino12 » 07 Dec 2006 10:44

Having visited several countrys and still not finding our perfect holiday resort, friends pointed us in the direction of Turkey.
We visited a few resorts and found the people so friendly and obliging among the places we first visited were Side, Olu Deniz,Hisaronu and Fethye.
Still not finding that magical thing that we were searching for we stumbled on Icmeler.
It was love at first sight, the people, the mountains, the mixture of old and new.
A picturesque Canal over which wooden arched bridges spanned, and in an evening, fairylights that adorned these bridges were lit up.
Little shops either side of the canal selling their wares with their lights glowing gives the whole area a fairytale look.
Our family was hooked, we have been going for a few years now,and we still get the goose pimples as we view Icmeler for the first time on our return visits.

I agree with you, we tried a number of places in Turkey and it was only went we stayed in Marmaris and visited Icmeler for a day that we decided it was the place for us.
There is no better feeling than when your on your coach/taxi etc going over the mountains from Dalaman and you get to the peak and look down and you see it all. That first glimpse is still magic after all these years!

The first year we went to Icmeler we ended up there because of the deal of 3wks for price of 2wks (in the May), we had been thinking maybe we should try Spain maybe the canaries, however it was going to cost a fortune and when we saw the 3for2 thought well we might as well give it a try for the same amount of money - and boy are we glad we went. I had been off sick for a few months prior to that holiday and it did me the world of good. Infact so much so my friends noticed a difference in me to (in a good way of course) and I felt so much better. We then decided to try Gumbet in the October, and it definately wasn't the same as being in Icmeler.

After that due to various circumstances we didn't get back to the beautiful Icmeler for 4 years (this year) and as soon as arrived at the apartments we began to recall the reason for wanting to go back after the first visit and decided there and then that we would be back the following year. Needless to say we are heading back next year for hopefully 2 visits instead of the usual 1! Also hoping to get brother and his girlfriend to come with us in September to see why we love it so much, and convert them

The only place I have ever been in Turkey is Icmeler! I have never had a yearning to try anywhere else! I have no sooner come home from Icmeler than I'm wanting to go back.
If I won the lottery I would definitley buy a house there, not to live in all the time cos I do love where I come from also, but to keep popping over often. I would also like to pay for all my family to go over with us so they will understand, but I suppose I'll have to win the lottery first

We found Icmeler because we went to Marmaris and spent a day in Icmeler. Went back following year and fell in love with it. We've been going twice a year for 11 years now. Missed one due to hubby's illness. It is the only place he asks when are we going again.

Ive been going to marmaris now for 6 years and visited icmler for a night out 2 years ago. Thought it was ok. In May i went looking for an apartment in marmaris, happened to stay in Icmeler with my friends while i looked around. for a whole week i searched marmaris looking for something and found nothing to my liking and within my price range. The very last apartment I looked at was in Icmeler. The estate agent persuaded me to go and see it even though I kept saying I dont want Icmeler. He kept saying trust me you will love it so reluctantly I looked and imediately said YES. The weird thing was , when I stayed in Icmeler, I kept looking across the road at the apartment not realising this was the one I was going to buy but now im hooked and keep going back and now when I go into Marmaris for the shops i dont stay long cos i want back to all my friends and neighbours in Icmeler. Its were i feel at home

How did "You Find" Icmeler?

Postby andi » 07 Dec 2006 22:35

Friends recommended Icmeler to us

Been there 8 times now, and I think of it as home..... just love the people, we have made so many friends there, and they just cannot do enough for you.

I have dreadful post holiday blues when I come back, and have to go back to work........Need to buy somewhere there I think!

The mind is a wonderfull thing were we can all create a place of ecapeism.
How many of you, are like me and think about Icmeler every day,and create a little fantasy were we can live our dreams.
No one can break in on our thoughts, this makes them all the more special,
we are the masters of our own little world.

I am not on my own, I would think we all have that secret desire to "Escape" our normal lives and relive our Happy Times.

We found Icmeler by accident . A good few years ago we didn't know where to go on holiday . I went into our local travel agent and told them all the things that we wanted on our holiday . You know , the usual things , day time flights , air con , childrens club and a fresh water pool instead of sea water .
She tapped into the computer and came up with Icmeler in Turkey . I just laughed and told her "You must be joking " . I had pictured Turkey not very safe and not very clean (How wrong was i). I went home and told my other half , he said "Why not , it's got everything that you asked for"
Next day i took the bull by the horns and booked up for what turned out to be the best holiday we had ever had . We have never looked back . In fact every year we go back we go on mass , there's never been less than eight people , more often than not there are sixteen of us .
We are known locally as Mr and Mrs Icmeler because we bore the pants off everyone . There isn't a day goes by that someone in our family doesn't mention Icmeler .
It's like a little piece of heaven on earth .

We have been to Turkey for the past 10 years: Alanya - too big; Hisaronu twice - great place; Kusadasi - horrendous; Marmaris twice - OK but... went to Icmeler for the day on second visit and never wanted to go elsewhere since. Husband keeps saying shall we just try somewhere else but I say if its not borken why try to mend it!

Great "natives", friendly holiday makers, no trouble, cold beer, good hotels, excellent food, wonderful weather, nice beach - perfection

My husband had wanted to go to Turkey for some time. In the end, it was our close friend who recommended Icmeler to us. He used to visit at least 3 times a year. So after 9 years of no holiday, we followed his advice and booked. He was kind enough to draw us a map of the main parts of the town - which turned out to be spot on!

Our first visit was in 2005 and we were hooked. We always wondered why people went back to the same place year after year and now we know.

Alas, our friend passed away earlier this year but I still have the map he drew for us and when we were over there in August, I had a drink to his memory, shed a tear and thanked him wherever he is for showing us this beautiful part of the world.

God bless you Alan

many years ago, the clever one in our house left to book a london theatre weekend.she called me at work to inform me we were going on a five day a.o.a.in the marmaris area.after a three hour delay and the usual transfers around marmaris we arrived in icmeler tired and hungry.neither the driver or rep had been to icmeler before so an hour later they phoned the hotel who dispatched a guide.we were met at the roadside, cases taken to our rooms and informed that the kitchen and bar were still open.(it was one in the morning).the room we were given had never been used before and it was superb.i awakened early and opened the balcony to be greeted to a view of a camel and two goats in field surrounded by pine clad mountains.the people in the hotel and in general were genuine, good, nice, friendly people who could not do enough to ensure that we had an outstanding holiday.we try to go at least twice a year now with family and with friends.the first sight of icmeler still makes me smile and we still think it was the best £75 WE EVER SPENT

Hi David

Your story is uncannily similar to what happened to us 13 years ago. Rep hadn't been to Icmeler before and we had to get a local to show us where the apartments were. We were in the Moonlight apartments and we were first to use the room, the sofas still had polythene wrappers on them!!. It turned out they were owned by the mayor and we told him how the reps couldn't find them. The next year when we went back there was an official road sign pointing you in the direction of the Moonlight

Again totally by chance. We needed a holiday but didn't have much money and wanted somewhere in the next 3 weeks.
The travel agent after suggesting a few places we did not fancy came up with Icmeler. Now although we had always said we did not want to go to Turkey, it fitted our budget and when we wanted to go. After all, it was only for a week, how bad could it be?
Well that was 5 years ago and with 2 holidays a year we haven't been anywhere else since.

dont know if this is the route anyone else took, but we started in spain, worked our way round to cyprus, then rhodes,in between we were lucky enough to visit barbados & mexico, anyway it was while we were in rhodes, somebody pointed out you could on a clear day,see turkey, after looking at many brochures, the page fell open on icmeler, with the picture of the bay,it looked good, now some 13-14 years later,at least two visits each year,we have got ourselves an apartment, (seven weeks last year) now each time we leave icmeler, like everybody else we are very sad,but we know, when we go back it will all be there waiting for us,
merry chistmas everybody

Although we have been to Icmeler a couple of times before this year was the first year we actually spent our two weeks in Icmeler and we loved it.
It does have everything for everyone.
We are not going back next year as we are going to Egypt and I am asking myself why? WHy WHy
We have been to Turkey three times this year, May to Olu Deniz nice but not Icmeler then the good two weeks and then one to Belek. 5* Luxury. You can keep them, I don't think we would go for free.

Icmeler is by far the best of the resorts. I think we will be back there in October and maybe May.
Merry Christmas everyone
