Own food in airport/plane

Postby kingtut » 30 Apr 2015 17:56

Hi all. I would be really interested in your views on taking your own food into airport/eating own food on plane - outward journey. I know a lot of us take the Icmeler special sandwiches into Dalaman.

So a couple of questions:-

- do you have to put your food into your hand luggage? It would increase the weight of your bags and I am thinking you could say that it's for eating in the airport, therefore no need to be weighed?

- Does anybody use the robinsons shots to mix with water and save a fortune when u get to Dalaman?

My thoughts with the weight is that you have your hand luggage weighed at check in, then go buy a bag full of duty free... so my logic tells me that you don't have to weigh the food.. but I may be barking up the wrong tree ☺

I think barking is the word

If you are carrying anything through into the airport that does not go in the hold of the plane then it is hand luggage or in your pockets

If your food is going to weigh a lot, how much are you eating

Its fine to take food on board and a couple of sandwiches/crisps dont weigh that much

We always fly into Newcastle on an early hours flight, no need to eat when your sleeping. :D

When we fly from Manchester (depending on our flight times) we go to a nearby little village called Gatley Green where there is a small bakery which incorporates a cafe that does a fantastic full english at a fraction of the airport prices (and a lot better!!) All we have to do is set off from home about an hour earlier. The fruit shot thingies are superb. We used them throughout the holiday last year - best thing since sliced bread!!

We always take our own food for the airport or plane. It usually consists of a baguette each, an individual wrapped cake each. Depending on what time we fly we either eat it before departure or on the plane. I just pop it in our hand luggage. Never had a problem with it Manchester end. We did have our sandwiches checked at Dalaman once, they were wrapped in tin foil. So now I ask for them in cling film when we have them made.
