Postby chrislee » 29 Mar 2015 15:40

I never went to Icmeler last year, but went the 4years previous the price for a meal has always been good ,could anyone tell me if the cost has gone up a lot ,because of the exchange rate being good ,I think it's arould 3.50 tl to the pound now.

Difficult to say for definite until more places are up and running, but you will still be able to eat very well and very reasonably. One of the beauties of Icmeler is that there are places to eat to suit almost every taste and every budget. There will probably be some price increases, but with the exchange rate being so good, I think most people will still be very happy with what they are paying.

Really? Suppose it maybe depends where you are eating, but I've seen a few places put their menus online and there have been three-course set menus for less than 30TL. Even at 40TL though, with the current exchange rate, that's only £10.

We don't drink alcohol so will save on that. Even at 40 YTL for a steak dinner, £10, is still great value

Menu prices up

Postby chrislee » 11 May 2015 21:10

You are spending more in Turkey ,these days ,I,ve been 4 out of the last 5 yrs now, and 4 yrs ago I was getting 2.3 tl to the £ but the meals were between 15 and 20 tl ,now you can get 4 tl to the £ but the meals are between 35tl and 50tl,so they are making a bigger profit now ,but still love icmeler :D

You can still eat well and eat cheaply if you go to the right places - three-course set menus in some places are less than 30T

It would not matter if the exchange rate was 2 to the quid or 20 to the quid

Prices do go up in the world as food prices rise, wheat, flour salt sugar etc

Bars are not making lots more money because the exchange rate has gone up or saying lets screw the Brits

Its because taxes, electricity, water in fact everything has gone up the same as in the UK

In Turkey people do not live on stuff out of Iceland or Heron foods or such like

No Processed stuff, everything is fresh

I ate in a Turkish place the other day, salad, beans, rice, liver and peppers, bread if I wanted it and as much as I wanted, 1 water and 2 teas and came to the grand sum of 12 lira which is less than 3 quid

Now if you want to eat steak meals every night and eat in the posh places then yes it will cost you more but I suppose it all depends on what you want

You can buy a draught beer for around 7 but it says draught, it may not be Efes it could be Marmara or Venus or even Perge but for an afternoon session in the sun then they are not too strong so may suit you

It all depends on what you want out of your holiday and how you want to spend your money

Go along harbour past the Ataturk statue but other side and past the 2 bars which for some reason I can't think name of, turn left into bazaar area where PTT is and you will see it on left Adana Sofrası

Turn left as you get to it and first cafe on left

Young lad speaks perfect English will help you

Here are a few maps courtesy of Ekinnumber1 from Marmaris Trip advisor forum

Some well known Fast Food / Take Away outlets in the resort (Burger King, KFC, Subway, McDonalds etc)

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewe ... 5DIk8n9_so

Ocakbasi, Patisserie's, Cafe's, Kebabs etc ...........something different

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewe ... 6ljp3yDbw0

On that last map there is a place called Mehmed Ocakbasi and is my favourite in the centre, Friday and Saturday their free starters change and are delicious, food is proper Turkish grill house the same as places in Icmeler that say Authentic but a fraction of the price

Be prepared to stand outside at weekends until a table becomes available

A new one that is on there is called Mayhos and is in the Armutalan area of Marmaris and is frequented by the Turk Chopper group so if you want good food and atmosphere and like to check the bikes out then its for you

The type I have mentioned are proper Turkish places and you would find lots of Turkish eating there

We made the mistake of changing quite a lot of money at the end of our holiday in 2013 at the rate of 2.8 which we thought was good at the time. We were able to keep our lira and change sterling last year but won't be able to this year. If the prices in Icmeler rise to match the exchange rate that means an increase of 43%. So whereas someone else will be paying £10 for their 40 lira meal, we will be paying £14.30. This will be a hefty expense for two of us for 19 days self catering.

Where have you seen the set meals? When we looked last year we saw very few, we must have been looking in the wrong places. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Loads of places do set menus, dragon - they've usually got a board outside which tells you what you get and prices. Holiday Bar does some lovely food and great value set menus.

We look out for the board. Had the set meal in the Holiday and I can't remember where else but in lots of places we didn't see a board. I remember asking in one restaurant if they had a set menu and they did, even though they didn't have a board. Can't remember where though, unfortunately we've both got memory problems so there's no chance of us trying to remember :( Best tactic I think is probably asking in each restaurant if they have a set meal, that's if we remember to ask lol.

There are also fewer and fewer restaurants serving lavaş. The Holiday and Richard's Place still serve it but many now just serve bread which is a shame as it was something we always enjoyed. The Chef used to serve it but we haven't been there for the past few years as there seemed to be problems there. These seem to be sorted now as the reviews now seem to be good again so we'll go there again this year.

Florida always have a set menu..soup, steak or chicken, desert & a drink.
Never been disappointed, always happy with the price. Although I can't remember how much it was now.
