Different Excursions

I am getting request from people to think of new places or new excursions that we could put on that are different to other agencies or just something that they have never done before

Turkey is a very difficult place to actually come up with an idea and then take control or actually be the only agency to do it

It is a case of monkey see and monkey do

We created the hidden lake trip, the Datca trip, the Akyaka trip and then the jeep trip to Akyaka and the trip down the river to see the fish and the birds and all the countryside and every one of these trips have been copied by other agencies as it seems that they cannot think of their own trips

We still have the 2 or 3 or however many day you want trip to Rhodes that is solely us (probably too much work involved to copy that one), the Istanbul 2 or 3 or however many days you would like (definitely too much work involved in that) and of course the Gypsy Beach day trip which they don't seem to have got onto yet

Gene Hudson/RedRhino has been with us from the start of our forum and every year he looks after the monthly list of who is visiting in Icmeler at what date and a sterling job he does with this (not a job, not paid just out of love for his beloved Icmeler and for our members on ICR who have grown to know each other over many years.

Maybe we can get Gene  to incorporate (actually I will with his help) some trips as in the Gypsy Beach day our which is my personal favourite as it is a very relaxing day for me too, or maybe our all inclusive boat trip where we can all meet according to who is coming in each month and get some memories and photographs to keep us going through the winter.

Its been a while since we all got together and did something like this so maybe with Genes help and your own by adding dates to the monthly topics we could arrange some trips out together

I can definitely recommend the Gypsy Beach trip and would be up for doing that again if it's on while we're there. Akyaka trip on the jeeps was also a great day out - we liked Akyaka so much that we're spending a few days there this year before we come on to Icmeler.

I also liked the Gypsy Beach Day out, along with the ICR private boat trip.maybe instead of doing the fish farm caves etc instead of turning right after the cave turn left around the headland,
I love the Akyaka day out with the boat trip up the Azmac River.
Maybe an early morning breakfast at Halil restaurent on the way to cruise around Gokova bay passing Cleopatras Island and call in at English Cove were our boats hid during the war.
I notice a lot of the FB pages arrange social evenings in the resort,We used to do this 15 years ago,my first meet ever being with Holidaytruths, the venue was Coco Beach, unfortunately ICR stopped doing these because of the lack of interest.

The nicest thing about all trips is that you meet people of the site and friendships are forged.
As John says to come up with fresh ideas is hard because after a fortnight your idea will be no longer fresh because someone else will follow suit.

Hi John,

The Gypsy trip isn't on the excursion list that I can see, might be why it hasn't been copied as yet .... Neither is the Datca trip, Akyaka trip or Lake trip? ... Are these still available?

They were always on the list but we decided to take them off as it was not fair on the people who did book only to be told sorry not enough interest

Probably the reason is a lot of people are just looking to get more bang for their bucks as in the cheapest excursions

They were more expensive because we had to find a bus and driver for the day and for the distance and what was crammed in

A jeep safari is easy, get a jeep put 8 people in drive down a road

The gypsy beach went off the beaten track, had breakfast in the mountains, up another mountain for views and photos, along winding country roads and through real working villages and then onto a sea front area where we just all chilled out

Any of these can be brought back if there is enough interest

Fair enough John, so basically anyone interested in any of the trips needs to put a post on here with dates they're back in paradise and see if the numbers needed for certain trips can be made

A couple of years ago we went on the Akyaka trip with ICR and what a fabulous day out it was. As my husband has mobility difficulties he was unable to access the jeep so a car and driver was provided for us so we had the individual attention of the guide who was more than happy to answer all our questions about the area and Turkish culture. The jeep was also there so we had the company of the others at the various stops. All in all a day I would happily repeat and the fact that my husband's difficulties were addressed was much appreciated. We have often thought of doing a boat trip but have been concerned about the access so we will discuss this with staff at ICR when next in resort.

I take a motorised wheelchair which is a portable one when visiting Icmeler (no one could lift my normal one). Last year I went on the trip with ICR on the Erin 1 with no problems at all and enjoyed it so much went again the following week.

I also went by boat to Marmaris and the year before on the boat to Turunc. Until two years ago I didn't think I would be able to go but it is so easy and everyone so helpful I wish that I had ventured years ago.

When I booked the Erin 1 I didn't think that I would be able to join in the swimming stops but the type of ladder on the boat meant that it was easy to go in and out of the water.

Many thanks Dragon for this information. Sounds like he would manage and as you said we tend to hang back in case it doesn't work out and then miss out on so much. To have the name of a boat that is accessible is a real bonus so thanks again for the info.

John, would love to do Gypsy Beach - we did this with you about 4 years ago and had a brilliant day. Any chance of doing this mid June as there will be at least 10 of us there for the wife's 'special birthday'? We're in Icmeler for the first week in May so could come in to the ICR office and have a chat with you if this sounds do-able?

If there is a guaranteed party to fill a bus then of course we can do it on an off day
