There is music being played and the tourist can have a dance. Some places the staff are doing their shows but when the police are spotted they stop. The clap clap belly dancer is still about I believe but I've not seen him myself.

Thanks for the info, I was also getting confused and it doesn't take much for me either.
As long as there is background music my other half & me will be happy.

Yes still background music being played, the volume is a lot lower, I've seen council workers patrolling the streets on foot to ensure the music is below a certain volume so no more music wars lol

Yes, there is still entertainment as others have said - there is also karaoke on in various places, and for instance, the new Tiki Beach on the beachfront at the Marti has live music in the evenings.

I've just got back from Icmeler. The music is now at the level it was when you were eating you meal. It doesn't really increase and is just background music really. The only show is the male belly dancer. The police are everywhere constantly checking that the bars/restaurant abide by the rules set by the mayor. I never went for "wild" nights but it has really changed the feel of the resort. To me its all about choice. If you want a quiet bar there were already many and if you wanted something a bit livelier you could find it no problem. That choice has been taken away now. Apparently it is already affecting the bars/restaurants and takings are down so if it carries on like this (fingers crossed it doesn't) it doesn't bode well for next year.

Thanks for the report Amelia but one thing I do not understand is if they are saying takings are down because of that rule then does that mean that people are just sitting in their even quieter hotel and apartment rooms

Maybe its because there isn't as many people in the resorts anywhere across Europe due to other reasons

The big companies are still giving deals out on British TV and it is already June, there are discounter flights everywhere even for high season.

The resort staff we spoke to and our friends say that compared to last year there are just not as many people coming to the resort. Maybe they are staying in the AI hotels but they say that compared to May/June over the last fews years there are definitely less people around. It could pick up now as the season is getting underway. I don't necessarily think people are sitting in apartment rooms or at their hotels. I can only base on what I saw and every bar was fairly empty most nights except a couple on the canal which seemed busier. Apparently there are 16 police officers patrolling the canal every night to monitor the volume of music and make sure there is no entertainment. We saw them every night so how can that be a good sight for tourists? I still love Icmeler though and I am going back in August but maybe next year somewhere different as even for me it was too quiet.

The point I am trying to make Amelia is

There is a drop in tourists in the resorts and that is why the bars seem emptier than other years

It has nothing to do with lack of entertainment as there is no one there to see that the music is off

In July and August we will see what the ban has but people will still go out and sit in bars

No one likes any bans but law is law and this Mayor unlike others is actually enforcing it and he has already had an attempt to injure him because of his other rules

There is a drop in tourist numbers in many places this year, not just Icmeler. It's got more to do with lack of money than lack of entertainment. I was in Icmeler in may and it was very, very quiet, but at that time, not many people were aware of the crackdown, or had already booked before it became common knowledge, so you can't blame the mayor for that. Personally, I'm in favour of the changes he is implementing. I believe it will make Icmeler a nicer place to visit for those of us who don't want loud music and tacky shows. If that's your thing, there are plenty of other places to go, and the people who have been giving Icmeler a miss because it was turning into a mini Marmaris, will hopefully return. The newbies will decide for themselves once they've been, but I'm sure many of them will return too, so Icmeler is not going to die the death. It will just attract a different kind of tourist.

Yes I agree its just this year the mayor is enforcing the rules. Don't get me wrong I still had a great holiday and love Icmeler. I agree that many resorts/countries will see a drop in tourists this year for whatever reason. I do go to Icmeler because I have friends there so music/entertainment isn't the only reason I go. I'll be back in August and there is still enough variety to keep us all happy :D I can't wait despite the changes!! They may or may not last only time will tell.

Just had a quick cheap week in Altinkum at a family run hotel and seeing friends who have an apartment just out of town and it is such a run down resort, so quiet, big hotels totally shut down, very few British tourists around and even the beaches were quiet, many hotel pools still closed and empty.

But.... they are allowing some live entertainment, some Turkish and some British, playing live music, solos with backing tracks , and one excellent guitar duo (acoustic but amplified) with a young British girl singing for them. Nice change and some good nights had by those there.

Nothing loud but tasteful and good to see, also well occupied and busy with mixed audiences, both Turkish and some Brits.

However, back to Icmeler in mid September, and looking forward to no competing thump thump rap at high volumes in bars full of swearing that the Turk lads don't understand, sorry , rap is cr-p !!

Would be good to actually meet people and chat with them instead of shouting!

I do love my live music, but am happy to compromise and just enjoy a quieter ambience.

Roll on September to top up the tan!
