Starting a moan.
Canal market gone, Wednesday market gone, Bullshit and skinny rambo not on boat trips, no more evening entertainment?
We have booked for September, but will holidaymakers start voting with their feet ?
Is there any holiday resorts like the old Icmeler anywhere else in Turkey?

Moan over, we still love the place but we think the changes are not for the best.

Have you been there this season yet? I think it's a bit early to say what effect the changes will have - especially in the long term. There are quite a few people who seem to think they are changes for the better, so maybe we should wait and see...
There is still entertainment, there is still boat trips, there is still plenty to do - it's not as if Icmeler has suddenly become a ghost town overnight.

Don't travel with a negative attitude. Seems like you've already made your mind up that you're not going to have a good time.

Agree, just go and enjoy! .. I personally don't think it'll make a difference as I've previously mentioned ... Nowt to stress about :D

You can still barter with the Shopkeepers in Icmeler and you've got the Marmaris indoor one to play in, plus as JT said there's other trips now available to the outdoor markets but elsewhere.

Bars and entertainment will be the same, only difference will be if you normally had them dancing in Tables whilst eating that won't happen, which is a good thing ... Plus we won't know a difference as we never went anywhere like that and always ate first, but then went into some of the 'livelier' Bars etc ... Mrs G loves a boogie and a sing song! Lol

To be honest, lets not think for the worst, play it by ear, wait until we get there and we might be pleasantly surprised and hey, lets enjoy, cos after all its our little piece of paradise as long as we are there whether its a week or two or whatever. As I`ve already mentioned in previous posts, bring it on they cant take it away from us. :D :D :D :D

I just hope its not dead with nothing to entertain our family on a night time. We love icmeler-hence returning time again-as it has ghe right "level" of things going on. Its not boom boom In your face but its not boring with nothing to do either and us as a family love it how we experienced it 2 years ago (that was our last visit) im really looking forward to going just hope we can still find plenty to enjoy and entertain the kids on a night time. Whatever it is like we will still make sure we have a fantastic holiday aswe have waited 2 years for this holiday and its for 3 weeks this time, however, it might have an impact on deciding weather we return next year or try somewhere else

I don't know what people are panicking about. I've just come back and hardly noticed any changes, and the ones I did notice were good. There is still music, although not quite as loud, there is still dancing, and I saw at least one act doing the rounds. The illegal ice cream vendors and tour operators have gone from the beachfront, but there are still plenty places to get ice cream and tours just a few yards away from the beach. The place hasn't died overnight. If you're going to go with a doom and gloom attitude, you might as well cancel now and go somewhere else. It's what you make it, and 10 years on I'm still finding new experiences and still enjoying it. If the time comes when I get bored, I'll move on.

Can only agree with the few posts above.

Not being hassled at the market to buy knocked off goods isn't a big deal. Aren't these same clothes and bags available in shops throughout Icmeler, Marmaris and Turunc?

I won't be shedding any tears over the non licensed ice cream vendors on the beach front. Again plenty of above board alternatives nearby.

I can understand why some may miss the 'shows' but for me if you've seen one untrained dancing waiter you've seen them all.

The changes seem pretty common sense to me. The most unpopular ones will fall by the wayside like the AI boat trip ban that seemed to barely last a few weeks.

Finally, some common sense...been reading posts all over Facebook and so on from people who haven't even been yet this season vowing that they'll never be back because of the changes! How can you possibly say things like that until you see and judge for yourself. I'm looking forward to arriving next week more than ever now.

there seems to be a mixed bag of feelings on the changes,i have been going there 14 yrs now, sometimes 3 times a year, and im so glad i have some fantastic memories of the early days which to me made icmeler that very special place, ripping the heart out of the canal , the market , the ice cream sellers, and now the entertainment, the canal is a shadow of what it used to be,it was like a high street on a sat afternoon after the bars had closed every evening, afterwards having a nice stroll along the waterfront with an ice cream to finish the evening is now a memory past, i almost feel sorry for the people who will visit for the first time this summer and wonder what the hype was all about, to them it will be just another holiday resort and i,ll be surprised if they return next year, people like me returned every year because we liked it for the way it was,im afraid the magical essence of icmeler is slowly been eroded away and i dread to think how it will look in the years ahead. sure the canal stalls needed upgraded, not torn out by the roots, the market day was part of the holiday, nobody forced you to go,and yes some may say the entertainment was dated and repetative, and im all for improving things to make them better, but not taken away forever and replaced with nothing, what will be the next to go ?

I'm really looking forward to the changes. Icmeler was getting a bit too much like Marmaris - very loud and'in your face'. Even in quiet bars the noise from other bars could be quite intrusive. If we want a lively night then we prefer to seek it out rather than have it enforced upon us. We cut down our Icmeler holidays from twice (and sometimes three times) a year to once and had been thinking of not going at all. We will be there in a couple of weeks and if Icmeler is anything like the place of a few years ago we will immediately book another holiday there for later in the year. Call me a grump if you like but it takes all sorts. Marmaris is only a dolmus ride away if it's boom boom you are after.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with Ian and agree with patsiej - I think the changes will actually help to restore the "magical essence" of Icmeler, as in the past couple of years, I had feared it was on the way to becoming a mini-Marmaris. There is still entertainment, there are still market stalls - although I do agree that the stalls along the canal are a loss - but as patsie points out, Marmaris is just a short hop away for anyone who finds it too quiet in Icmeler. I for one am looking forward to arriving in Icmeler next week even more than ever now...

well im sure there have been many people already been and back from icmeler, cant see many reports of people saying the changes were for the better and icmeler is a better place this year, if this was your first time in icmeler this year what would your first thoughts be ? what would make it a holiday above all the rest ? i think icmeler is lucky there is little competition around just now, the changes won,t stop me going and like everyone else i will just have to accept the changes for now but people will start to drift away ,as i have been going for many years i know a lot of people there like most of us do,if you ask them when theres no one else about you will get the truth of what they think about the changes and the impact it has had on there businesses, im sure no one will want icmeler to be the same as marmaris but you will need first time tourists to enjoy icmeler as i did the first time i went there and return year after year, i dont think with all the changes it still has the same to offer first time visitors.

Well, I know a few folk who have been there this season or are indeed there are the moment and are loving it all! Some of the business people even seem to think the changes are for the better too. I suppose maybe it all depends what you want from your holiday - different people have very different expectations, I guess. Only time will tell...
