Can't believe the Lira

Postby dksbbs » 27 Sep 2013 10:14

Just looked at the Interbank Rate for the Lira and at the moment it's risen to 3.27, it touched 3.28 at one point.

I think I will be taking some extra £'s to change next week for our 2014 holiday, I can't believe this rate will last.

The rate has been slowly rising since the end of July hasn't it, its hard to find places that actually give you the true rate which you find on the internet but if you can even get a few more for the £ as you say for next year, its all good. I wish I'd given some to my brother to get for me when he was there a week ago. :)

It's amazing. I almost changed mine in a travelex flash sale at the beginning of the month cause I was pretty sure it would be lower than the 3.07 they were offering by the time we go on Monday. So pleased now that I didn't have my bank card with me to do it! Doing my Christmas shopping in Icmeler next week - the family stockings might just be a little big bigger if this rate stays where it is for just a while longer :)

We fly on Monday as well, 8.30 from Manchester with Monarch.

When we were over in August we were getting 2.92 which was the best rate we have ever had since 2002, I actually changed the £700 I had left over for use next week, I am still happy with that rate but that will now be staying at home and I will take Stirling to change for this holiday and the next, can't afford to change all I require next year as I am still saving but hopefully will have 50% of money changed for next year.

Just got 320 in supermarket next to tandoori sizzler. I did suggest it should be higher due to interbank rate but just got laughed at lol

The rate is excellent for holiday makers but very bad for businesses. If it stays as high as this it will be disasterous for Turkish tourism, as rents etc are all generally paid in Euros so the already extortinate rents will cost the business owners even more, forcing many of them who are literally just hanging on, out of business :-( so the Icmeelr you know and love may well be very different if rates do not go down.

Returned home from icmeler on 1st October, it was 3. 20 / 3.22 all the time we were there. We found the best rates at Elvis supermarket, top of canal and a small shop on the Tanzas road, next to Christine from yorkshires resturant, also Florida resturant.

Similar to Mansy ... October the 4th when we came back and it was 3.20 in the local Supermarket over the road from the Mersoy Bellavista .... Just a shame we're skint or I'd be getting the Lira for our return in July!

Just had an exchange rate of 3.2375. I'd already changed at the rate of 3 so will use that when the rate drops. Only problem is all my spare cash is now in lira. Luckily I'd finished my christmas shopping otherwise I'd have been tempted to change that as well with such an excellent rate lol.
