is icmeler dirty this year?

Postby geordiedave1964 » 12 Sep 2013 09:38

I've noticed this year it's not as clean as normal.. dont know if it's cutbacks with the council or what.......even the lovely beachfront hotels grass looks longer and unkept....in not sure I've enjoyed the icmeler experience this year but it has nothing to do with the apartments because they are lovely.

We noticed this year the amount of litter in the streets. Every day on our walk to and from the apartment we couldn't help but comment on the plastic water bottles and other rubbish lying around. Usually everywhere is so clean and I hate to say it but the resort was a little shabby in places. Hope its just a glitch. :?

Litter is very bad in certain places unfortunately people just drop it expecting someone else to clear up , also seen many full rubbish bins which is unusual.

Everything seemed fine in May when we were out, perhaps as we approach the end of the season the council is running out of funds to carry on their usual services, it happens in the UK as well, perhaps the shopkeepers and bar owners have stopped sweeping the paths outside their premises like they usually do because its getting to the end of the season and they are all worn out, just trust it will be back to normal next May.

I didn't notice any difference in the first two weeks of August compared to the last few years but maybe I wasn't looking properly after quite a few Efes.

I will have take note when we go back at the end of the year.

When we were there in May I commented that it was not as clean as normal. As we came to the close of our holiday it did start to look a little better. We went on 13 May so right at the start of season maybe they were waiting till the season got into full swing

For many years we have visited Icmeler for the first two weeks in July. For the last few years we have been on holiday for three weeks but still in July, so it is easy for us to compare the standards.

Never before have I commented on the amount of rubbish lying around the streets, but this year was shocking. We even saw a massive pile of bin bags just off the road with screens in front of it but at least this was on private land. As we use wheelchairs we often swerved around items of rubbish left lying on the road which we haven't needed to do previously. This was only in the old village, the standard in the centre seemed as high as usual.

We have been holidaying in Icmeler on and off since 1995 and were there for three weeks in June of this year. We did notice lots of Tansash carrier bags full of household rubbish dumped on street corners and a great deal of litter, empty lager bottles and cans left on walls and in the road side. The canal was filthy. I will be back in Icmeler at the end of September (yes I know how lucky I am) and hope this beautiful corner of our world has received the love and attention it deserves.

Defo a bit more grubby this time. Here in July as well and certainly more rubbish now than normal. The charm remains but the rubbish more noticeable.

Hi,
We were there end of May this year and there was definately a lot more rubbish around escpecially going back towards the old village and side roads, its such a shame as it does tarnish a beautiful place but will not stop us coming back

I commented on this last year and its the same again this year, its mainly plastic bottles that you see in the roads and on the footpaths, but its the same all over England, once you used to see women brushing the roads but not any more.

I commented when we went in April - just a week before the start of season and there seemed an awful lot to still be done. I was assured it would all be done, but our return at the end of May didn't look a great deal better in some places! I have to wonder, usually it's been such a strict rule about no building work after 1st May and this year it carried on, with sorting out the premises to move the shops on the corner beyond Tansas, and right at the other end with the refurb work on the Alinda - perhaps with all this going on there has been a little shift in the general attitude towards keeping up the standards? Perhaps it's the change in the governing processes? Overall, April was a shocker with the rubbish, May/June still looked shabbier than normal and my OH did notice the same when he went back in August too. We're returning on 30th so guess we're lucky enough to see just about the whole season this year - hopefully it'll be a bit tidier.

But then maybe this year has just seen a higher number of messier tourists?

Well I had 3 days stay in a hotel in Armutalan in July with friends and the 3 days we were there, the rubbish was just piling up on the street corners and not being moved

If this is how the council run Marmaris, when they take over the running of Icmeler next year it may well happen there too

I hope not as it has never been this way

Maybe Icmeler council know that they don't have the money to waste as there will be nothing next year, they are chanelling what they have left into getting some jobs finished before they get no money at all

Sorry Noodles but it won't be any better, :( has been like this all year but people are to blame for creating the mess & the council is trying to play catch up. Wherever you look main streets, side streets, beach area all the same; people as in locals, holidaymakers, waiters, everybody; nobody bothers to try & find a bin. A very bad example is round the corner from the RFC bar there is a staff house & at the other end of the same street opposite Richmeler/Holiday Restaurant another staff house absolutely disgusting - landlords & staff employers could do a lot more about the standards - I feel sorry for the neighbours. Turkish locals are now more prone to simply leave their rubbish kerbside rather than walk a short distance to the skips. Personally I think it's people much more than the council that are at fault. Living here I have certainly seen a big decline & I have even on a number of occasions cleaned up our street area as it's disgusting & our area is a quiet turkish residential area. We find it all a big disappointment & JT being so optimistic  about next year fills me with glee. Being to wonder if Icmeler has had it's day :( .

Do not forget Roy, you are not there on holiday and no longer see it with rose tinted spectacles

To you it is just another town as you live there

To the holiday maker it is magical

Wouldn't call Icmeler 'just another town' but in reality that's true JT; you do see more (the bigger picture so to speak) over a longer period of time & we're not in holiday mode - just enjoying our lives. You can also find out more about the turkish culture & about the people not involved in the holiday industry.

Icmeler will lose its magic if the rubbish keeps on piling up. Just hope it doesn't become more of a problem.

I don't think Icmeler is any more dirty and have to say the bins were emptied every morning at 7ish - my alarm clock! Also the road sweeper was out every morning with a man walking in front of the wagon sweeping in between parked cars and I even saw him move scooters/motor bikes to allow the road sweeper to get close to the kerbs. I have never seen a brush used by our local road sweeper, even though they are provided. They just pick rubbish up with large pincers. I agree about the staff quarters by RFC and the building opposite Richmeler - I wouldn't like to be a neighbour near either property!

:D We have just come home on sunday from icmeler after a 2 week stay, we go twice a year, I have never seen rubbish around. The binmen were round early every day and the bins on the way to the beach were emptied every day. Were I live you have to ring the council to come and sweep the gutters or they would,nt bother. :(

well they do better than here in the north east of england then. Here we only get our bins emptied once a fortnight - black bin one week green bin the next. Doind each bin every week is too much for our council never mind bins emptied every day! Well done to them i say.
Obviously i cant comment on how much rubbish is lying around as i haven't been this year - roll on July 2014
