hi all,

sure this may of been cover already, but went to get some sterling chq's today at TC to be told that they are gettng lots of customers coming in and in her words "kicking off" as they had to pay to change there chq's in turkey and also recieved a lower rate of exchange compared to cash. Neither of these has ever happen to myself just wondering if this is the case this year normally take a cash/chq's split just for that little bit security.

i did get the impression that TC are pushing a preloaded card but am not overly keen on the idea.

any info will be grate. 20 days and counting

From what I've read on here I think the only places that charge are possibly the exchange shops.
The supermarkets/bars that exchange are still commission free from what I've read/heard.

I had no problems changing travellers cheques this year,no charges and got the same rate as cash inthelittle supermarkets.

I have not seen anyone here mention being charged anywhere in Icmeler!

the pre loaded cards are good but charge you for every withdrawal, i took one to greece a few years ago on a girls holiday as we didn't have a safe in the apartments and it was useful for that but i ended up running out of money because i didn't budget for the charge every time i took cash out! i thought you could only get the cards for US dollars and the Euro? x

It's an elaborate ploy to try and get you to take their prepaid card, really it's a form misselling and needs to be clamped down upon. I work for a bank and I'd get in to a lot of trouble if I said anything similar.

cheers for the info, kneale had a suspicion it was something like that, sticking to cash and chq's as norm 15 days and counting.

Don't know if this will work but a previous poster said they were not getting the same rate. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=14671&p=159190&hilit=travellers+cheques#p159190 You will find it searching travellers cheques.

I seem to remember that on the boards outside the change offices they had one rate for Cash and another (slightly lower) rate for cheques. It is a distant memory though, maybe someone in Icmeler can confirm?

thanks for the additional updates, toonarmy I never bother with the change offices always us the supermarkets next to icr or opposite selen2, never been charged in the past so will stick with the 50/50 split cash/chq.

Best Supermarket was giving our friends 0.02 less for Travellers Cheques than I was getting for cash.

We were given less per £ when changing travellers cheques at Best Supermarket this year. I will probably take cash next year.
