Exchanging money

We were talking to the local change office and were told that it would be better to take lira instead of travellers cheques because a lot of people in Turkey do not change them
We don't think this is true as we have always used travellers cheques
We assume all is ok in Icmeler for money exchange?

They would just be saying that to get you to change your money with them. My parent are out there now and have taken travellers cheques, no problems with changing them there.

All they mean I am sure is that travellers cheques are a little 'old hat' now but hey, if they work for you then carry on. I take a bit of lira and some sterling to change while out there. :D

Thanks for the replies
One of the reasons for his g travellers cheques is for security if they get lost or stolen they will be replaced unlike cash
Just feel safer that way

I doubt they'll be phased out as they're used a lot in the States.

Also, UK cheques were going to be phased out in 2018 by banks, but the plans have now been shelved after complaints by businesses and charities.
