Icmeler Online Holiday Forum & Reviews - Turkey

Although I've been to Turkey twice and (touch wood) not needed medical attention or fallen ill, I was thinking about maybe getting vaccinations for this years trip on 29th July. I've heard the recommended ones are Tetanus, Polio,Typhoid & Hepatitis A - can somebody please confirm this?

Although I've not checked my travel insurance I'm sure most won't pay out if you become ill and you don't have the recommended jabs.

I was just wondering when to get them, I would guess it's best to get them at least a few weeks before departure (just in case there are any adverse affects).

Myself and my son had our jabs a few weeks back for the exact same reason (insurance).

You're right with the jabs you listed, I had to have them all but my son only needed two.

Rabies is also recommended but you have to pay for that one and it's very expensive (over £100 each) so we didn't have that one.

It's best to get them done at least 6 weeks before travelling and if you're having the full lot I'd suggest having them done when you've not got a lot to do the next day as both my arms were terribly achy afterwards, mind you I am a major wuss lol

Phone your Dr's surgery and they'll be able to tell you what you need and when to have them.

We're going out 15th July - 3rd August so maybe see you around at some point

I agree, 6 weeks before is the recommendation,

Also be aware that Hep A needs a booster after 12 months and Typhoid is every three years.

I had my vaccinations on Monday (go 7th June) Tetanus/Diptheria/Polio and Hepatitis A.
The nurse asked If I had ever had a Measles Vaccination as a child or actually had Measles as it didn't appear to be on my medical records. She said they were recommending Measles vaccine as there was an outbreak in Turkey recently (not sure exactly where) Decided not to bother with that one, I'd had enough!
And yes janeypoos, my arms ached for 3 days afterwards.
I don't think any are compulsory but better to be safe than sorry also saves any problems with Insurance.

The various vaccinations you have mentioned are not compulsory to come to Turkey and I know when I first travelled to Turkey I went to my doctors and asked the same as you guys. They then looked on their website and I pointed out the area of Turkey I was Travelling to and they said there were no injections need for that area as they were not considered risk areas. It would just be your own decision to have these injections.

Got to agree. When I first brought my son 10 years ago I asked the doctor and was told that as long as he had all his childhood inoculations there was nothing to worry about.

I just wish you could get one to immunise against the #@%$! Mosquitoes!

I spoke to my nurse with regards to immunizations and was told they are mandatory and you do not have to have them I didn't know this and have had them years ago so mine just need toping up but not going to get my children done it is bad enough with the preschool injections I was worried about regards to insurance and was told this is rubbish

Tried to get an injection today for the Icmeler bug, caught it in the early 2000's and it has dragged us back twice a year since then, sorry but no cure for this ilness
