Exchange rate 2.68 at min was 2.69 earlier we are really tempted to get some now before we come to Icmeler in early May or should we wait to see if it goes up some more?

I'd be tempted to wait, if it does change I doubt it would be by much (either way)

But like any form of gambling (and that's what stocks and shares really is) there is no sure-fire way of guaranteeing anything so don't 'hold' me to that...

I'll be changing mostly in resort but I'll change £100 worth before we go for first day-or-so.
Most places in Turkey will gladly accept GBP (especially in the market or when paying for excursions etc.)

Hi sunseeker
Gone back up to 2.69 today, but you are right better to wait & see & change a little bit before we come but if it reaches 2.75 we might change a few hundred just in case it drops to the 2.30 mark like a couple of years ago

The best rate in the UK I see at the moment is 2.698 where the interbank rate is 2.764 so in Icmeler I would expect to get 2.72

It is a gamble, at the begiining of the year you could get 2.80.

The drop recently is a combination of the negative 2102 Q4 growth results, the UK loosing the AAA rating and the Bank of England saying they are not bothered about inflation at the moment, I think it will creep up a bit further unless the 1st Quarter growth results show negative again and puts us back in another recession, if that happens it may drop quite dramatically.

For information the 2013 Q1 results Release date: 25 April 2013 at 9:30am

Like you I may buy some Lira (max 50% of spends) if it hits 2.70+ to minimise the gamble but I will make a definate decision by Wednesday 24th April before the Q1 results.

Hi Dave
On Travel FX site it is now 2.71 but you have to order min £500 to get free delivery & its bank transfer only to pay for it. Used them last year & all was good. Will wait a bit more & keep my eye on it

I usually have a look at http://www.fethiyetimes.com/ to check the rates, I know it's not Icmeler but I use it as a guide. This year we did things the other way round, we exchanged our money when the rate was high and will soon pay off the holiday. I'm so glad we did it this way especially as we're self catering as it makes a big difference to our spending money.

Seems to be slowly (but surely) rising over the last couple of weeks, I'll still wait til we're in resort (In August) to exchange our money though.

You always get a better rate over there anyway. I'd wait, take my chance with my £'s and get the lira over there.

I just bought my daughter 100 TL from Thomas Cook for her birthday on Saturday and it cost around £37 - I think exact rate was 2.681.

I do know one of the staff there so not sure if I got 'staff rates' though...

I'll do the same nearer the holiday (get 100TL over here) and change rest in resort.

Whilst the rate is always better in Turkey than here, the rate depends on how the economy is doing at the time in both countries. We changed our money back in November and if we had been in Turkey at the time we would have had an even higher rate. We've only once had a better rate and that was a few years ago so we took advantage and changed our money before it went down. If the rate was between 2.3 and 2.6 I'd wait and change my money in Icmeler.

My daughter decided a few years ago to get the 'better' rate in Icmeler and was shocked to see it go down to 1.9 :(
