Fake Efes

Having just seen on another post that bars are selling beer that is not Efes but passing it off as it.

Does anyone have any more info on this?

Cheers

If it's the same post I'm thinking of, that's not exactly what it said....

"just read between the lines on all the signs

Large bottle Efes 5 lira, Draught 3.5 lira

Does it say Draught Efes?"

Now, where does that say they are passing beer off as fake Efes? If a thing seems too good to be true...or maybe some people are too stupid to question anything.

Anyway, why start a new post about it when it was already being discussed elsewhere? Or am I missing something...

Can someone please point me to the other topic where this was mentioned so I can merge them

Please don't make another topic about something that is already being discussed as it just tends to confuse

See I am confused now as I can't find the original topic

There wasn't another topic. It was mentioned on another post related to Havana bar being closed. As this is not the same topic being discussed I thought to start another rather than go off topic on an unrelated thread.

In response to blondie I think you should get your facts right before having a go at others as the quote you made is not what I was referring to. It was a quote by jt a lot earlier in the thread

Agh come on now play nice all

No I am sure there was something else somewhere somehow along the way (jeez was going off into a Johnny Cash song then)

Anyway there is NO fake Efes as why would you try to copy it

Just keep your eyes open for a play on words, it's as simple as that

I would rather know what I was drinking (most of the time you can tell anyway) as Perge draught just reminds me of Kaliber lager but at one time you could get Mamara (I think) on draught and for the cheapest booze it was ok. just as long as you know what you are actually drinking

That's fine jt. I get the fact that they may try to be deceptive and will keep an eye out for misleading signage.

I was more concerned that the original post came across as places advertising Efes yet selling some cheap rot in its place and thought these places should be avoided

Cheers

you are right JT. its all about knowing what you are getting. Pay for effes - get effes. pay for beef burger (maybe you dont expect all beef ) but dont expect horse. Suppose you just wannna get what you expect! Perhaps thats an ideal idea.

A simple test would look round the back of the bar your drinking in for empty casks ,theyre usually easy to find as most bars dont have too much storage space.if its efes it will say on the casks,Rog.

Some bars are selling Perge which my husband tells me is OK.
It is brewed in Antalya with the water that comes from the waterfalls in Manavgat. :D

In 2011 I drank the odd bottle at the apartments for a change from Efes, It was 4.5Tl compared to 6 for Efes, it was weaker than Efes and didn't taste too bad however they didn't sell it in 2012.

If they sell me Efes I expect an Efes, if they sell me Perge I expect Perge, if I don't see a name I ask what the beer is first.

I must admit, Efe's is definitely my beer of choice - it's just so refreshing on a hot day!
We were paying around 5.25TL for a large Efe's in the hotel and a XXL one was 6.25TL.

Guess which I bought more of? lol

Someone with the same feelings as me, as we are going the same day maybe we will run into each other and share a few together.

Best pint of Efes by a mile is in LFC bar. Ice cold, frosted glasses and expertly poured pints of draught Efes (with a proper head on) by either Erol or his lovely wife, who incidentally are the perfect hosts.

Many an afternoon spent there just 'popping in for a couple' and ending up in oblivion.......or was it Mars. !!

Roll on June when we can do it all again.

If we're talking good hosts and cold Efes beer then I would say Tolga and Rhodes Apartments. I could also say Zaza and the now gone, Havana bar - hey though I hear he has new premises. Or Liberty bar. All very nice. :)

The best bottle of efes has to be the first one on the beach by Harmony bar, lying on a sunbed, looking at the view and being looked after by any one of the lovely staff. Sheer heaven!
