icmeler friends

Postby kez&sue » 21 Jan 2013 14:15

hi all just wanted to share with you that over xmas we recieved a phone call from our friend mehmet from charlys place he used to be at elif and a few other places and having seen and heard from certain holiday makers saying that the turks are only nice to you because they want your money and im sure there is an aspect of this that is true, however mehmet did not need to phone us to wish us a merry xmas and indeed joked that we never ring him on his religeous festivals,so we found it really really nice that he would take the time to phone us and i genuinly class mehmet and a few more people we have met over the years as friends, and if there is an element of them being nice only so you spend money with them i for one would sooner spend my money with the pleasant people of icmeler than the miserable ones back home here in cold nottingham

We also get merry christmas messages from our Turkish friends, usually by text message, we had two this year by text and two others by email.

I also think there is an element of some Turks feathering their own nests, but the genuine ones far outweigh this faction.

I for one count them as real friends who do care.

Aw Mehmet, my oldest and dearest friend who we met on our first visit 14 years ago. A truly genuine, caring and honest friend. I often recieve a call from him, usually to say he's missing us and when will we come again. I get lots of calls, texts and emails while at home from the many friends we have made over the years. Makes me feel like I'm returning home to visit my " family" every time we go to Icmeler. 100 more sleeps and will be back visiting all our extended family :D

My wife and i have been returning to Icmeler now for 17 years, and have enjoyed every minute. Weve made some great friends over the years, and encountered a few characters along the way, but you get the same sort of people (ie those who befriend you for personal gain) all over the world, not just in Turkey, but England as well. The trouble is, its the outspoken minority that get the voice, this forum im pleased is the excepetion, we get plenty of positivity from genuine people who care about, and want to share their fun. Roll on this years fun.

JT, we didnt catch up with you last year (we saw Rami and booked one of your excursions tho!) , so must right that wrong this year over an Efes or two...! See you in June !

We had a Christmas card from Vidat from More Jewellery. I thought that was really lovely, we only met him for the first time this year, having bought a couple of pieces but always stopped for a chat as we walked past. It's those little touches that really make Icmeler stand out for us :)

We also had a telephone call on Christmas Eve fom Jimmy Okimo who often rings us at this time with Christmas greetings and we consider him as a friend and like many have said before, most Turks are very friendly. Of course, there is the other side of the coin - maybe it is the attitudes they receive which are not friendly! Of course, other Icmeler friends are in contact via e-mail and facebook. :)

We became friends with a young waiter 14yrs ago in Marmaris. He is now married and lives in Norway, but always gets in touch Christmas and new year and still calls us mum and dad :D
