After reading on the board about a few problems some of the members have had with insurance it became apparent that there are a few folks on here who have ongoing medical issues, myself included.

Would it be allowed to have a thread where we could recommend particular insurance companies. In the past i have had difficulty getting insurance and some companies were charging ridiculous prices.

Dont know if that would break any forum guidelines JT

TC are telling customers that they are no longer including Turkey on their European policy.
I am sure they use AXA so its worth checking when arranging insurance with any company that they still include Turkey on the European policy as Worldwide is a lot more expensive and not necessary as many companies still include Turkey.

Unfortunately alot of insurance companies do not list Turkey now under their European policy (this started a few years ago). This is partly because Turkey is not part of the EU and for medical treatment does not offer cover for European citizens under the E111, thus any medical treatment received while in Turkey would need to be paid for.
This said check with your insurance company as not all companies have taken Turkey off their lists :)

We have always had Turkey,Tunisia and Egypt covered under our European Insurance.
The companies criteria includes them because they border the Mediterranean sea.
However in 2011 apart from coming to Turkey twice we also visited Tunisia and Egypt.
It was only after I phoned to renew our insurance they informed me they were no longer covering Tunisia and Egypt because of the revolutions
Thank goodness we didnt require medical assistance on those 2 holidays!
My current European policy with Staysure still covers Turkey and Tunisa. :D

I have just had to add something on my insurance that I had 18 years ago!
Its becoming a nightmare and even going to an EU country you need to be well covered as there are not many public hospitals in the resorts.
Most people get taken to private clinics or private hospitals that dont accept the EHIC.
